General Technician I

Position Description:

This position is responsible for performing routine maintenance preventative maintenance and emergency repairs to university systems including plumbing electrical HVAC support carpentry and painting. Pay for this position is $23.00 per hour. Monday through Friday 8 am - 4 pm.

Major Responsibilities:

• Perform general maintenance and repair work including plumbing electrical HVAC support carpentry and painting
• Respond to work orders in a timely and professional manner
• Conduct routine inspections of campus buildings and systems
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and building systems
• Troubleshoot mechanical and building-related issues
• Assist with seasonal operations (snow removal heat changeover event setups etc.)
• Maintain tools equipment and work areas in safe and orderly condition
• Follow safety procedures and campus policies
• Support campus events as needed
• Read and interpret blueprints diagrams sketches and job specifications
• Assist other trades as needed

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Technical or trade certification preferred
• 25 years of general maintenance experience (institutional or commercial preferred)
• Working knowledge of plumbing electrical HVAC and basic carpentry
• Valid drivers license

Other Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of computers for tasks including reading email logging hours and entering work order information
• Strong troubleshooting skills
• Ability to prioritize problem solve and manage multiple projects
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and campus community members
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions
• Knowledge of a wide variety of tools and equipment
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs. climb ladders and work in varying weather conditions
