Physical Therapist Sports Medicine

Vanderbilt University Medical Center is seeking an experienced and motivated Physical Therapist to join our Sports Medicine team. This role supports athletes competing at the highest levels and is well-suited to clinicians who thrive in a fastpaced performancedriven environment and value interdisciplinary collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver comprehensive evidencebased physical therapy care to competitive and highperforming athletes
Implement injury prevention strategies emergency action plans and returntoplay protocols
Conduct advanced evaluations and analyze functional and clinical data to assess readiness and safe participation
Serve as a trusted clinical partner to athletes coaches and sports medicine stakeholders
Provide direct patient care in the clinic approximately 50% of the time with the remaining responsibilities supporting onsite and programmatic needs
Contribute to program development operational support and continuous improvement of Sports Medicine services
Promote athlete health safety and longterm performance through education and evidencebased practice
Operate motor vehicles to provide onsite support as needed

Required Qualifications
Licensed Physical Therapist
Strong clinical judgment communication and organizational skills
Demonstrated commitment to athlete safety and evidencebased care
Valid drivers license with an insurable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in sports medicine athletic performance or highlevel orthopedic rehabilitation

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Analyzes comprehensive information from formal and informal assessments that is pertinent to the patients care and management to determine a rehabilitation treatment diagnosis.
Collaborates with stakeholders in establishing the plan of care coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the rehabilitation continuum.
Applies appropriate evidence-based interventions to ensure effective outcomes and re-evaluates performance to assess the patients progress towards goals.
Employs strategies to promote successful return to home community and school/vocational environments.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
Rehab Therapist Patient Documentation (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates proficiency in documentation practices. Documents in the appropriate templates and utilizes only approved abbreviations within patient documentation. Meets institutional standards for quality and timeliness of documentation.
Rehabilitation Therapist Patient Evaluation (Novice): Demonstrates proficiency in evaluating patients with physical deficits including impairments developmental disabilities functional limitations disabilities or changes in physical function by obtaining information pertinent to the assessment and administering and scoring standardized tests and objective measures of deficit areas. Selects appropriate measures and performs a functional assessment to document the patients status requiring skilled therapy. Interprets assessment results and their significance for the patient family referring physician and other members of the health care team.
Treatment Planning & Goal Setting (Novice): Demonstrates sufficient proficiency in developing a plan of care that incorporates treatment interventions focused on meeting objective goals. Develops and documents patient-focused short and long-term goals that are functional and measurable. Identifies the need for and referral to other services as needed.
Treatment Implementation (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates proficiency in providing treatment consistent with the physicians prescription and the established plan of care. Able to modify treatment plan as needed to demonstrate provision of skilled therapy services including progression of treatment throughout the course of care and revision of treatment interventions of goals not met. May supervise and direct certified athletic trainers (PT only) physical therapist / occupational therapist assistants technicians volunteers and students. Selects and follows correct protocol for care and utilize evidence based treatments.
Physical/Occupational Therapist Patient Education (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates proficiency in communicating the functional impact of assessment findings treatment interventions treatment planning diagnosis and disease process. Considers the communication needs/level of understanding of the audience and may share appropriate information/literature.
