For more than 70 years Counseling and Psychological Services (CaPS) at Carnegie Mellon University has provided an array of mental health services to the university community. Over the past 5 years the counseling center has significantly expanded the services and training opportunities it offers including a mobile crisis team psychological assessment and gender affirming care clinics innovative outreach programming an APA accredited internship program and extensive group psychotherapy offerings.
Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a full-time 11-month recurring Staff Therapist position with Counseling and Psychological Services (CaPS). We are seeking individuals who are passionate about providing psychotherapy and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of mental health counselors licensed social workers psychiatrists psychologists trainees and administrative professionals to provide high-quality mental health care to the university community.
Core responsibilities include:
Provide clinical services (e.g. individual and group psychotherapy) for graduate and undergraduate students.
Provide additional clinical services including: initial consultations crisis intervention triage coverage and on-call after hours rotation coverage.
Consult with students faculty and staff families and parents and other providers regarding student mental health issues or concerns.
Provide clinical supervision to doctoral level psychology staff interns and/or other trainees.
Assist in educational programming for trainees (e.g. practicum trainees doctoral and masters level interns psychiatric residents).
Offer outreach programming to the campus community.
Maintain clinical records and necessary statistics of psychotherapeutic and other client contacts in compliance with ethics law and best practices.
Participate in department divisional and other University committees as assigned.
Attend and participate in regular CAPS staff meetings divisional meetings case conferences and in-service/professional development training.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology Counseling Psychology or a related mental health field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
Minimum three years of experience working as a provider in a mental health care environment (practica internship and postdoctoral experience may be used to meet this requirement).
License-eligible as a psychologist in the State of Pennsylvania. If not currently licensed must be independently licensed as a psychologist in the State of Pennsylvania within 2 years of start date.
Demonstrated experience providing culturally sensitive diagnostic assessment crisis intervention and risk assessment and brief psychotherapy.
Experience designing and facilitating culturally sensitive presentations for educational or outreach events.
Seasoned communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage conflict with cultural humility clear professional boundaries and ability to work collegially and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team process.
A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
Currently hold an active unrestricted license as a doctoral-level psychologist in the State of Pennsylvania or hold such a license from another state and can obtain a Pennsylvania license within 1-year of hire.
Experience working as a clinician in a college/university counseling center.
Successful completion of a supervised doctoral internship accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) with a minimum of 2000 hours.
Experience providing clinical supervision.
Experience in the treatment of eating disorders Mens Issues ASD ADHD or substance use disorders.
Expertise and experience promoting mental health awareness and well-being initiatives and engaging in advocacy for students.
