The Role
The Office of Institutional Planning and Research provides analytical insight value-added information and performancemonitoring that supports strategic planning and evidence-based decision-making for executives senior leadership and the widercommunity. It is responsible for a broad spectrum of research analysis and planning that will support evidence-based decision makingfor all departments in the areas of enterprise risk management policy development academic program review anddevelopment labour market outcomes and strategic and enrolment planning. It is also responsible for the administrationcoordination and analysis of all institutional surveys whether internal or externally mandated. As a key resource to thePolytechnic IPR provides centralized analytics key performance metrics and system-wide comparisons that measureaccountability at the institutional and provincial levels.
Under the direction of the Manager Institutional Planning and Research the Research Analyst will play a central role in theproduction of governed and customized data reports to help advance strategic planning and evidence-based decision-making atNorthwestern Polytechnic. The position will also conduct primary and secondary research into labour market and student demandto support program development conduct research studies utilizing the Polytechnics student information systems supportgovernment compliance reporting and support the deployment of the Polytechnic core institutional surveys and evaluationresearch efforts.
The primary responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to three core areas:
- Reporting and Data Analysis: Collect analyze and produce reports
- Research Services: Conduct surveys labour market analyses student demand analyses
- Government Accountability: Support government reporting activities

RequirementsThe successful candidate will have completed a minimum of two-year post-secondary studies in the Social Sciences Business Computer Science or related field and must include courses in data analysis social science or market research methodology and addition a minimum of two years of relevant experience related to social science research and report writing is required.
Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook;
- Demonstrated data visualization skills using Excel Charts Pivot Charts and slicers; experience using Tableau or Power BI is a definite asset
- Demonstrated data analysis skills using Pivot Tables Power Pivot; experience with R/RStudio SPSS/SPSS Syntax is a definite asset
- Experience conducting surveys using Qualtrics Survey Monkey or Lime Survey
- Demonstrated ability to produce timely reliable and accurate analytics and reports.
- Extremely high level of attention to detail data integrity and accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple and changing priorities meet deadlines with minimal supervision follow instructions and maintain confidentiality.
- Must possess a client-service orientation.
