Job Summary
Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Emergency Room
Location: Salem Virginia
Position Type: Full-Time Permanent
Position Overview
A respected acute care hospital in Salem Virginia is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) Emergency Room to join its fast-paced Emergency Department team. The RN will provide immediate high-quality nursing care to patients presenting with a wide range of urgent and emergent medical conditions.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment the ability to prioritize effectively in high-pressure situations and a commitment to delivering compassionate patient-centered care.
Responsibilities
Perform rapid patient assessments and triage according to established protocols.
Provide direct nursing care to emergency and trauma patients of varying acuity levels.
Administer medications IV therapy and treatments as prescribed.
Monitor patient condition and respond promptly to changes in status.
Collaborate with physicians advanced practice providers and interdisciplinary teams.
Document patient care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and discharge instructions.
Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Maintain compliance with hospital policies regulatory standards and infection control guidelines.
Required Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia (or compact state).
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred.
Minimum 12 years of Emergency Room experience preferred.
Current BLS certification.
ACLS required.
PALS and TNCC preferred (or required per facility policy).
Strong critical thinking communication and multitasking skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a high-volume or trauma-designated Emergency Department.
NIH Stroke Scale certification.
Ability to work flexible shifts including nights weekends and holidays as needed.
