At the Faculty of Medicine Department of Health Science and Technology a PhD stipend is available within the general research programme:Biomedical Engineering and Neuroscience. The stipend is open for appointment from April 1 2026 or soon hereafter.

Currently our department has approximately 280 employees 100 Ph.D.-students enrolled in the Doctoral School in Medicine Biomedical Science and Technology and 1500 students in our bachelors and masters programmes. As The Faculty of Medicine wishes PhD positions to enable careers both within and outside the
university the vacant positions are created in such a way that the competences achieved in the position will qualify for both a research career and a career in the commercial and/or public sector. At least a year before the position expires you will be offered an interview to clarify your future career.
The PhD research will focus on the development of AI models for analysis of prehospital ECGs with the aim to triage patients with suspected myocardial infarction and identify acute coronary occlusion from ambulance-acquired ECGs. The project will leverage a unique nationwide dataset comprising all ambulance ECGs recorded since 2001 linked to the Danish national health registers and the Danish Heart registries enabling robust validation of occluded coronary arteries and clinical addition large-scale foundation models will be developed and trained on the Aalborg Supercomputer (TAAURUS) facilitating advanced ECG representation learning and prediction of acute coronary events in the prehospital setting.
The PhD candidate will join the CardioTech Research Group at the Department of Health Science and Technology. The group currently comprises twelve active researchers including five PhD students and applies an engineering-oriented approach to both clinical challenges in cardiology and more fundamental questions related to cardiovascular disease

Qualification requirements
PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Masters degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School in Medicine Biomedical Science and Technology in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1124 of September 19 2025 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time.
