Overview
The Systems Administrator Level II provides advanced technical support systems administration and oversight for the healthcare IT environment at the USAF Academy MTF. This role is responsible for more complex tasks and acts as an escalation point for Level I technicians. The Level II Administrator ensures system availability security compliance and the delivery of IT services that meet Defense Health Agency (DHA) standards including involvement in planning implementation and troubleshooting for both endpoints and servers.
Responsibilities
- Provide advanced technical support in the installation configuration maintenance and troubleshooting of servers operating systems networked devices desktop/end-user systems and peripherals.
- Serve as a point of technical escalation for complex issues unresolved by Level I personnel; coordinate with DHA enterprise teams and Government Task Manager for resolution.
- Oversee Active Directory (AD) organizational unit (OU) management group policy administration identity management access controls and integration with endpoint management tools (e.g. MECM).
- Ensure consistent patch management vulnerability remediation and compliance with cybersecurity directives (including IAVA STIG and organizational policies).
- Develop maintain and document system operational baselines and ensure systems are maintained for configuration compliance.
- Support the review and planning for IT projects upgrades migrations replacements and the implementation of new technologies.
- Assist with lifecycle management for IT assets (hardware and software) including documentation asset tracking staging deployment and DRMO disposal.
- Provide guidance mentoring and procedural support to less experienced Systems Administrators and Service Desk Personnel.
- Participate in incident response activities disaster recovery planning and execution of backup and restore operations.
- Generate and maintain technical documentation standard operating procedures (SOPs) work instructions and change/risk documentation related to systems administration.
- Interface with users local support teams the Government Task Manager and enterprise/region-level support for service management escalations and process improvement.
- Participate in required and ongoing DHA/information assurance training and maintain all mandatory certifications.
Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship: Required.
- Associates degree in Computer Science Information Systems or related field (Bachelors degree preferred).
- Prior work experience within a DoD federal or healthcare IT support environment.
- Familiarity with DHA and military health IT systems processes and reporting.
- Experience with telecommunications support VTC systems and cable management.
- Project management or technical lead experience on IT implementation or upgrade initiatives.
Clearance: Ability to successfully complete and maintain a favorable Tier 3 (T3) background investigation (or higher if site-specific/sensitive).
Relevant experience in systems administration roles including Windows Server/Active Directory environments and endpoint management in enterprise/government settings.
DoD 8140/8570 baseline Information Assurance certification (e.g. CompTIA Security CE or equivalent); certification must be maintained as a condition of employment.
Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with server operating systems (Windows Server preferred).
Advanced understanding of desktop OS hardware networks and application support.
Experience with AD group policies identity/access management and configuration management tools (e.g. MECM/SCCM WSUS).
Experience in patch management vulnerability remediation documentation and incident escalation.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to produce clear documentation and provide user/customer training.
Ability to mentor junior staff and escalate complex issues to enterprise or Government leadership as needed.
Preferred Experience:
- Previous systems administration or senior IT support experience in a DoD federal healthcare or classified environment.
- Familiarity with DHA DoD or federal information assurance/cybersecurity standards.
- Experience supporting telecommunications VTC and network infrastructure.
- Project management or technical lead background on IT initiatives.
