Job Summary

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration Educational Leadership Facilities Management and/or another related field as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent of Schools.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in facilities custodial or maintenance operations including supervisory responsibility
  • Strong knowledge of building systems custodial practices and maintenance operations
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and manage multiple priorities
  • Experience in a public school district or municipal setting

Special Qualifications:

  • Ability to analyze operational systems and identify opportunities for efficiency sustainability and cost reduction
  • Knowledge of capital improvement planning and compliance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of state and federal safety environmental and building codes including ADA and OSHA regulations.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with district and town officials contractors and community stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated evidence of superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership in developing safe efficient and sustainable operational systems.
  • Knowledge of state and federal safety laws.

Job Goal:

  • The Facilities & Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day oversight coordination and supervision of custodial maintenance and facilities operations across the school district. This position ensures that all school buildings and grounds are clean safe well-maintained and operationally efficient in support of teaching learning and district operations. This is a hands-on site-connected role that emphasizes implementation supervision and operational execution. The Facilities & Operations Manager directly supervises custodial staff and building operations coordinates routine and emergency maintenance and repair activities and supports district-wide facilities projects as assigned.
  • Working under the direction of the Superintendent of Schools the Facilities & Operations Manager ensures that facilities operations align with Board of Education goals approved budgets collective bargaining agreements and all applicable local state and federal regulations. The Manager is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of assigned staff in accordance with Board of Education policies labor contracts and legal requirements.

Reports to:Superintendent of Schools and/or his/her designee

Compensation:As negotiated in the non-affiliated contract between the Facilities and Operations Manager and the Avon Board of Education

Terms of Employment:Twelve-month work year with benefits articulated in the non-affiliated agreement between the Facilities and Operations Manager and the Avon Board of Education.

Performance Responsibilities

Facilities & Operations Management

  • Oversee daily custodial and maintenance operations across all district facilities
  • Ensure buildings and grounds meet health safety and cleanliness standards
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance programs and routine inspections
  • Respond to and prioritize work orders emergency repairs and operational issues
  • Support building administrators with facilities-related needs and planning
  • Assist the Superintendent of Schools and district leadership in assessing building conditions related to weather events emergencies or facility issues including providing on-site evaluations and recommendations regarding school openingsclosures delayed openings early dismissals and the scope of required cleanup or remediation.

Staff Supervision & Leadership

  • Directly supervise head custodians custodians and maintenance staff
  • Assist with hiring onboarding scheduling and training of facilities staff
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
  • Develop efficient work schedules to ensure appropriate coverage for school operations events and emergencies
  • Promote a professional collaborative and service-oriented facilities team culture
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule during the school year including adjusted or staggered hours to provide direct supervision support and accountability for second-shift custodial staff and to ensure consistent facilities operations across all shifts.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Assist the Business Manager with facilities-related budget planning and monitoring
  • Manage custodial and maintenance supplies equipment and inventory
  • Recommend cost-effective purchasing repair and replacement strategies
  • Oversee contracted services (e.g. HVAC pest control snow removal) as assigned

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal state and local regulations including OSHA environmental and health standards
  • Support implementation of safety plans emergency procedures and building security protocols
  • Maintain documentation related to inspections permits and compliance requirements
  • Coordinate with local authorities inspectors and vendors as needed


Project Coordination

  • Assist with planning and execution of small- to mid-scale facilities projects
  • Support capital improvement work by coordinating staff vendors and timelines
  • Oversee summer cleaning setup and school opening readiness
  • Support after-hours events and community use of facilities
