Job Summary

Job Description
50% - Follows an established inspection routine in an assigned group of buildings for needed maintenance and repairs to various mechanical/electrical hvac plumbing and building structural equipment.
  • Performs lubrication cleaning inspections changes belts and filters in equipment.
  • Performs repairs on heating ventilating and air conditioning units replace bearings electric motors gear reducer air compressors various electrical and pneumatic control components etc.
  • Maintains an adequate supply of tools parts and supplies for jobs.
40% - Responds to emergency calls/after hour emergencies:
  • Repairs are performed timely and as expertise permits.
  • May assist other central shop staff with more complex repairs.
  • Respond during loss of utilities or equipment failure.
  • Reset equipment and assists with repairs on HVAC equipment.
10% - Other Related Work as Assigned:
  • Assists with other maintenance areas and in other work areas as assigned. Assists with snow removal and surface treatment.

Position Overview
The University of Kansas is seeking a General Maintenance Repair Technician in the HVAC unit. This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of maintenance and emergency repair tasks to University buildings (physical structure mechanical electrical and plumbing systems) with this position being involved in a regular program of inspection and repair at a journeyman level using more than one skilled trade. This position requires the operation of work-issued vehicles.

Work Schedule: M-F 7:30AM-4PM

  1. Reach grasp lift carry and place moderately heavy loads frequently and heavy loads occasionally (50 lbs.) with or without accommodation.

  3. Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
  4. Work planned and unplanned overtime as needed.
