Description of the Position:

The Recreation Equipment Technician is responsible for assisting in the maintenance repair and inventory management of fitness and recreation equipment within campus recreation facilities. This position is paramount for ensuring equipment safety functionality and longevity to support effective facility operations.

Transferable Skills:

Candidates will develop technical troubleshooting skills attention to detail inventory management experience and independent problem-solving abilities. Additionally candidates will strengthen communication skills through reporting maintenance needs and coordinating repairs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventative maintenance on fitness and recreation equipment.
  • Diagnose and complete minor equipment repairs.
  • Conduct routine inspections to ensure equipment safety and functionality.
  • Maintain accurate equipment inventory records.
  • Assist with ordering replacement parts and supplies as directed.
  • Report higher-level repair needs or safety concerns to professional staff in a timely manner.
  • Track maintenance logs and complete required documentation.
  • Maintain organized maintenance and storage areas.

Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills):

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot and fix equipment.
  • Strong reliability and accountability.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment as required.
  • Previous experience with mechanical repair tools or maintenance work preferred.

Physical and Environmental Factors:

This position requires crouching kneeling/crawling stooping twisting/pivoting reaching overhead grasping/handling pushing/pulling lifting and carrying objects up to 50 lbs. and operating equipment or machinery to perform the essential functions. It also requires exposure to loud noise chemicals vibrations and proximity hazards as well as rare exposure to respiratory factors wet or humid conditions indoors extreme heat and heights or cramped quarters. Protective equipment is required to perform some essential functions.Candidates must possess the ability to safely perform the physical work required of all duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
