The Opportunity
The Parks Operations Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring that our parks remain welcoming and enjoyable spaces for the community. Responsibilities include supporting departmental special events monitoring pavilion rentals assisting internal departments as requested and coordinating with outside entities for city initiatives throughout the year. This position supports the maintenance and enhancements of the functionality safety and aesthetics of departmental parks and facilities involving a combination of hands-on irrigation water features and pond aerator maintenance and repair.
Essential Job Functions- Models Coppells Core Competencies and Champions Coppells Culture.
- Completes assigned tasks with obtained certifications.
- Enters task information into Cartegraph asset management software upon completion of training.
- Interacts positively and professionally with park visitors by providing assistance and information as needed or requested.
- Performs routine inspections maintenance and repairs to departmental irrigation systems including city facilities parks medians ballfields interactive water fountains and pond aerators.
- Maintains cleanliness of park grounds facilities and pavilions by regularly picking up litter emptying trash receptacles and maintaining clean pathways.
- Properly operates and maintains tools and equipment by performing regular inspections and scheduling repairs as needed to maintain good working conditions.
- Supports special events and gatherings ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for attendees.
- Conduct routine checks of lighting plumbing sunshades electrical outlets and other infrastructure and report and/or address any problems.
- Responds to requests related to park maintenance and operations to ensure the optimal functionality and appearance of the park system.
- Collaborates closely with fellow team members and supervisors to prioritize tasks and allocate resources effectively.
- Plans implements and provides support for projects to enhance the visual appearance of parks.
- Identifies and addresses safety hazards promptly ensuring a secure environment for park visitors.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Performs special assignments or other related duties as requested required instructed and trained.
- Responds to weather emergency events as required.
- Ad Hoc Tasks: Undertakes additional tasks as requested or required to contribute to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the Community Experiences Department.

Experience Required
- High School Diploma/G.E.D. Equivalent.
- Valid State of Texas Drivers License with a good driving record.
- 2 Years of proven experience in any of the following areas:
- Irrigation System Maintenance
- Water Feature Upkeep
- Park Maintenance
- Landscaping
- Special Events and Pavilion Rentals.
- Preferred Vocational/Technical experience in any of the following areas:
- Must currently possess or obtain two of the following certifications within 12 months upon hire for continued employment:
- Irrigation Technician License through TCEQ
- Licensed Irrigator through TCEQ
- Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) through TCEQ
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) through NSPF
- Any related applicator license that supports maintenance operations for the department through TDA
- Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) through NRPA
- Certified Professional Turfgrass Manager through TTA
- Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities- Knowledge of basic repair techniques landscaping practices and horticultural principles and techniques.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain various tools and equipment used in park maintenance.
- Ability to maintain and repair irrigation systems and water features.
- Ability to complete small-scale construction projects.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly park environment.
- Basic computer skills with the ability to use Microsoft Office Outlook and modern computer hardware/software.
- Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Knowledge of city policies and procedures.
