About Us
Evergreen Fire/Rescue founded in 1948 provides around the clock emergency medical rescue and fire suppression services along with community risk reduction services to nearly 26000 residents across more than 120 square miles. Led by a Fire Chief and the Board of Directors of the Evergreen Fire Protection District EFR consists of six divisions: Administration Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Fire Operations Community Risk Reduction Maintenance and Wildland. The volunteers and employees of each division are committed to providing exceptional service to their community of residents business owners employees and visitors.
About the Position
The Fire Medic is a dual-role emergency responder responsible for providing advanced life support (ALS) medical care fire suppression rescue operations and hazard mitigation. This role requires rapid decision-making strong teamwork and the ability to perform under physically and mentally demanding conditions. Fire Medics respond to emergency calls provide patient care operate firefighting equipment and ensure public safety through education and community engagement.

While dates are subject to change EFR will do our best to maintain the timeframe established. All applicants must be able to meet the schedule expectations to be considered for the process. EFR will have no obligation to accommodate any conflicts a candidate may have.
Application and Testing Process
Step 1: Apply for job
All candidates are required to apply via the EFR website.
Step 2: National Testing Network (NTN) Firefighter Test
All candidates are required to register with the National Testing Network to apply. A Public Safety Self Assessment (PSSA) and FireTeam written exam are required. The written exam must have a passing score and your score will be weighted in the calculation of final scoring matrix. Any fee for testing is the responsibility of the applicant. To access testing visit ; select Find Jobs navigate to Firefighter Jobs and sign up for Evergreen Fire Rescue to apply and schedule a test. Tests are offered multiple times a week including Saturdays. The majority of tests are offered around the Denver metro area. Upon completion of the exam all candidate scores are forwarded to Evergreen Fire Rescue.
Step 3: Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT)
All candidates must possess a current CPAT certificate at the time of hire. Evergreen Fire Rescue accepts certificates from any licensed testing organization. Please note there is also a fee associated with this test. Additional information on the CPAT and how to obtain a certificate may be found at various locations around the Denver Metro area via an online search.
Step 4: Process
Candidates who meet the minimum requirements and successfully pass the CPAT exam may be invited to participate in the interview process. This process will be determined and are subject to change but include any or all of the following-oral interview(s) presentations and scenario-based activities. Candidates who are successful in the process will be placed on a preliminary eligibility list.
NOTE: EFR will provide additional consideration during the interview process to current and anyone who has served EFR in the past 3 years and left on good terms through any service including but not limited to Volunteer Residents program Part-Time and Full-Time employees.
Preference Points
Each applicant will be awarded 0.5 points for each 6 months of employment with EFR. This will not be prorated other than in 6-month time periods. EFR will also consider additional preference to United States Veterans as allowed by state and federal statutes. Documentation will need to be submitted. Conditional Job Offer
Conditional job offers will be given to chosen candidate(s) based on agency hiring needs. Job offers are conditional upon the successful completion of a formal criminal background check motor vehicle records review drug screen pre-employment NFPA 1582 compliant physical and psychological evaluation. Notification will be made either in person or by telephone. Successful candidates will be made a written offer and given a specific timeline to accept or reject the offer.
Eligibility List
Those who are placed on the eligibility list will remain on the list for one year (with the option to extend up to 6 months or dissolve prior to 12 months with Chief approval) or until the list has been exhausted within the stated time frame. The list will be created based on the total points achieved by a candidate. At the Fire Chiefs discretion when determining which applicant may be offered a position the Fire Chief may select any one of the top three (3) candidates based on operational needs and at their sole discretion by utilizing the Rule of Threes.
Any candidate may be removed from the final eligibility list based on any action or behavior inconsistent with EFRs organizational mission vision and/or values determined by the Fire Chief and Human Resources Manager. Eligibility lists do not guarantee that any candidate will be hired or that a vacant position will be filled. Moreover the appearance of a name on an eligibility list does not guarantee employment.
