Junior Legal Counsel Payments

The team
This role sits within the Payments Data & Innovation team which is part of the General Legal Affairs department in Amsterdam. The team consists of 10 lawyers and advises on payments regulation innovation and all datarelated matters. We cover key regulatory frameworks such as PSD2/3 PSR GDPR and a wide range of regulations impacting INGs Innovation practice including the AI Act MiCAR and eIDAS 2.0.

Roles and responsibilities
As Junior Legal Counsel Payments you will:

  • Draft review and negotiate payments-related contracts and support public tenders for payment services.
  • Provide practical independent and solution-driven legal adviceboth verbally and in writingto management and business stakeholders.
  • Proactively analyze market developments and new (payments-related) legislation translating these into clear legal guidance including impact assessments.
  • Collaborate closely with a wide range of internal stakeholders involved in payments innovation and the development of existing and new products.


How to succeed
To thrive in this exciting role you bring the following qualifications and experience:

  • A masters degree in law with a specialization or demonstrated expertise in public procurement law.
  • At least three years of proven hands-on experience as an in-house counsel or as a lawyer at a reputable law firm.
  • In-depth knowledge of European payment regulations; crossborder experience would be advantageous.
  • Strong analytical skills combined with the ability to maintain a strategic birds-eye perspective while remaining attentive to detail and a collaborative mindset.
  • The ability to manage a significant workload and navigate ambiguity and complexity effectively.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills enabling you to operate effectively at all levels of the ING organization.
  • Fluency in Dutch and English as these are the primary languages used in public tenders.
