Job Description
Performs intermediate administrative support work supporting building and zoning related activities of the Community Development department processing building and zoning permit applications scheduling inspections and providing information to contractors homeowners and general public and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the City Planner.
Duties/Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions
- Checks and accepts accurate and complete permit applications
- Maintains an accurate database of all permit applications
- Schedules inspections for multiple inspectors
- Provides service to customers in person and on the phone
- Processes and issues permits and collects permit fees
- Properly routes permit applications to other departments for approval
- Communicates extensively with citizens
- Conducts research regarding planning land use and zoning matters
- Provides printed information for planning zoning and development activities
- Intakes planning applications processing when the Planning Clerk is unavailable and as needed;
- scans permit plan documents
- Maintains accurate contractor database to ensure that contractors are properly licensed
- Issues water meters collects fees and maintains accurate meter information.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- A commitment to and belief in the organizations shared values
- Excellent organization and customer service skills
- High school diploma or GED
- Three years of general clerical experience
- Demonstrated skill in spelling grammar mathematics and computer applications
- Ability to communicate effectively efficiently and professionally
Desired Job Qualifications:
- Experience working in local county or state government or within the construction industry
- Experience working as permit technician
- Building permit technician certification
- Trained in conflict resolution

- Skilled at communicating effectively efficiently and professionally with the public and co-workers in a manner that is easily understandable possibly under stressful conditions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and co-workers

- Ability to see hear and remember facts and circumstances and properly document them for future reference
- Maintain confidential information
- Ability to work independently under direction and as a contributing team member
- Proficiently skilled with the use of computers and software including Microsoft Office products and other basic office equipment
