Responsibilities
In your role you will:
- Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infection prevention sterilization and patient safety protocols policies and procedures.
- Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information. Reload prior exams for comparison.
- Explain the examination process to the patient. Instruct and assist the patient in assuming the physical position for examination and throughout the procedure.
- Assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure - makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
- Select a transducer and adjust the equipment controls according to the organ to be examined the depth of field and other specifications of test. Move transducer over a specified area of the body and observe sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma High School Equivalency (HSE) or Completion of a CHS Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required
- One of the following is required
- Successful completion of an Allied Health Education Program (this includes but not limited to Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Radiologic Technologist Respiratory Therapist Occupational Therapist Physical Therapist and Registered Nurse) and 12 months of full-time clinical ultrasound/cardiac/vascular experience
- Attending a CAAHEP-approved or CMA-approved ultrasound/cardiac/vascular technology education program
- Bachelors Degree and 12 months of full-time clinical ultrasound/cardiac/vascular experience
Licenses and Certifications
- BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) required
- One of the following is required within 1 year of hire or transfer into position
- RDMS - ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
- RVT - ARDMS Registered Vascular Tech
- RDCS - ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer
- ARRT(S) - ARRT Sonography
- ARRT(VS) - ARRT Vascular Sonography
- RVS - CCI Registered Vascular Specialist
- RCS - CCI Registered Cardiac Sonographer
