Ever wondered how EC2 deploys software to one of the largest cloud fleets in the world We are the EC2 Deployment team and we build the services responsible for safely deploying software to millions of EC2 hosts in dozens of regions across over a hundred availability zones. We do this by innovating on how to approach updating a fleet of our size and then turning those ideas into a highly available and scalable globally distributed system that provides the mechanisms to ensure the fleet is always up to date. Everything we do has to keep the safety of the EC2 fleet in mind as we are the last line of defense to limit the blast radius of failure modes that can impact customers like Netflix NASA Expedia Snap and Epic Games.

As the Software Development Manager for the EC2 Nitro Deployment team you will be responsible for leading a highly skilled team of engineers to build and maintain services that perform deployments to all AWS regions and are used by over 50 teams. You will have direct impact on the safety and stability of the EC2 fleet and an opportunity to influence thousands of engineers.

Key job responsibilities
- Manage a team that develops software for EC2 infrastructure
- Work across various environments from team labs to public EC2
- Develop a roadmap to deliver strategic initiatives and continuous improvements
- Manage development and operational response responsibilities
- Champion continuous improvements to testing coverage diversity and alarming
- Lead the team to schedule and manage the contents for future and on-going upgrades and releases

- 3 years of engineering team management experience
- 7 years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3 years of designing or architecting (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8 years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing certification and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

- Experience in communicating with users other technical teams and senior leadership to collect requirements describe software product features technical designs and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting hiring mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective product software engineers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
