Job Summary

Title: Van Driver

Reports to:Director of Special Education

Hours:Transportation service will run as early as 6:15 a.m. to as late as 4:30 p.m.

Location:TBD

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office (after employment offer is made).
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices necessary in the area of student transportation.
  • Laws rules and regulations pertaining to van operations and pupil transportation.
  • Valid Class Drivers License

Purpose and Objectives of the Position:

The Van Driver will safely transport students to and from school and program sites. To accomplish these tasks the Van Driver works closely with the staff and administration of the district.

Essential Functions:

  • Operate a van within prescribed route(s) in accordance with the time schedules; pick up and discharge students at designated stops.
  • Perfor pre/post trip vehicle inspections
  • Escort and assist students on and off vans when necessary; secure seat belts.
  • Obey and follow all student transportation rules and regulations as outlined by the District.
  • Recognize problems which may interfere with the welfare of students and implement appropriate solutions; maintain order and proper discipline of student passengers according to policy; instruct students on safety regulations and policies related to passenger conduct; ensure safety of passengers.
  • Administer first aid and/or CPR as authorized under current standard certification as necessary.
  • Conduct daily safety and operations inspection of assigned vehicle; recognize malfunctions in take appropriate action; report needed mechanical repair when necessary
  • Keeping the assigned bus clean and checking daily to see that all equipment is in good working condition
  • Assuming responsibility for the conduct of pupils while they are in the bus

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

  • Must work in noisy and crowded environments with numerous interruptions.
  • Requires stooping bending kneeling reaching and turning.

General Responsibilities:

  • Ability to keep student information and records confidential.
  • Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative courteous and timely manner.
  • Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  • Ability to perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the administrative staff.

Pre-Employment/Yearly Requirements:Employee shall meet all the pre-employment and yearly requirements as specified in the Policies of the Board of Education.

Term of Employment: At will.

Salary:$15.00 hr based on the USD #453 Salary Schedule

FLSA Status: Non -Exempt; Hourly

Evaluation:Performance effectiveness will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board of Education Policy.
