Job Description
Job Goals:
To plan organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their cognitive physical and social/emotional development in the 21st century.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners
- Ability to plan coordinate and continuously improve instruction
- Ability to analyze situations determine possible options and make appropriate decisions based on the data
- Must be able to use a variety of technology and classroom tools
- Ability to manage instructional time and student behavior

- Ability to consult with parents teachers administrators and the community to enhance the learning of students
- Ability to monitor student performance
- Ability to interact within the educational environment
Additional Job Functions or Assigned Tasks:
- Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness health education rhythms and dance
and individual dual or team sports utilizing curriculum designated by Lenoir County
Public Schools and other appropriate learning activities.
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and
administrative regulations and procedures of Lenoir County Public Schools.
- Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing
a balanced physical education program.
- Analyzes demonstrates and explains basic skills knowledge and strategies of formal
sports games rhythms and fundamentals of body movement.
- Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with basic
instructional philosophy and congruent with course standards; provides individualized and
small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and
subgroups of students.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly productive
environment in the physical education areas.
- Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field
areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
- Evaluates academic and social growth of students prepares report cards and keeps
appropriate records to include attendance reports checklists census forms and other
recordkeeping activities as necessary.
- Maintains control of storage and use of school property.
- Evaluates each students growth in physical skills knowledge and contribution in team
sports.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
- Supervises students in out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Administers testing in accordance with all testing practices.
- Models non discriminatory practices in all activities.
Licensure Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelors degree from an approved education program in Health and Physical Education
- NC Teaching License or have qualifications to obtain a NC Teaching License
- Strong background in North Carolina Standard Course of Study/Common Core and Essential Standards
Physical Qualifications:
This role requires individuals to possess specific physical and sensory capabilities.
- They must be able to sit and stand for extended periods demonstrate manual dexterity to operate a telephone and input data into a computer and have sufficient vision to read computer screens and printed materials with or without vision aids.
- Candidates should also be able to hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels outdoors and on the telephone and speak clearly in audible tones in similar environments.
- Furthermore applicants must exhibit physical agility to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height as well as perform tasks such as bending stooping sitting on the floor climbing stairs walking and reaching overhead.
