Job Summary

Training for this position will be on 1st shift 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. with overtime as needed.

2nd shift hours are 2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

SUMMARY: In order to process lenses they must first be mounted (blocked) on a tool. The mounting medium is usually melted pitch or UV curing cement. There are a variety of different types of blocking tools and methods which must be learned during on-the-job training. Removal of the parts from the tooling after processing is also included in this job. The job is not highly technical but is somewhat repetitive and involves handling of hot parts. The job primarily requires attention to detail and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Plano Blocker I – All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform with guidance and training during the first few years of employment. There will be some positions that will continue to be this level when set ups and adjustments are not made by the employee. Plano Blocker II – All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform at a confident proficient level in 2 or more years of experience. This would include setting up and making adjustments with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Regular and punctual attendance is required Overtime hours may be required if needed General understanding of flow of parts Bar coding to record flow of parts Use and understanding of job cards Mount lenses on appropriate tools for further processing Utilize wax pitch or cement to attach parts to tools Works under moderate supervision Paint lenses when necessary Handle hot tools and parts Clean plano tools for blocking Make up wax for blocking Rack parts for cleaning Using degreaser

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
