Client is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer with deep expertise in digital accessibility and automation. This role focuses on embedding accessibility validation into automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous monitoring early defect detection and regression prevention across customer-facing digital platforms.
The engineer will lead accessibility automation efforts at scale including Axe Monitor transactional scripting Selenium framework integration and CI/CD enablement across enterprise web and mobile applications.
Key Responsibilities
Accessibility Automation & Engineering
- Design implement and maintain scalable accessibility automation using Deque Axe Monitor.
- Develop and execute transactional accessibility scripts (e.g. login search booking checkout flows).
- Integrate accessibility validation into Selenium-based automation frameworks.
- Embed automated accessibility checks into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous testing and shift-left practices.
- Analyze automated scan results to distinguish true accessibility defects from false positives.
- Troubleshoot automation failures and guide remediation efforts.
- Maintain reusable reliable automation frameworks across products and teams.
Accessibility Testing & Compliance
- Conduct automated and targeted manual accessibility testing aligned to WCAG 2.2.
- Validate automated findings and cover gaps that automation cannot detect (cognitive usability assistive technology behavior).
- Evaluate digital experiences against WCAG 2.2 AA ADA Section 508 and EAA standards.
- Provide engineering-ready remediation guidance including code-level recommendations.
- Validate fixes through automated reruns and regression testing prior to release.
Program Leadership & Strategy
- Lead execution of the digital accessibility roadmap with an automation-first approach.
- Translate accessibility goals into repeatable automated validations.
- Coordinate automation milestones across Product Engineering and QA teams.
- Track accessibility maturity using automation-driven KPIs such as coverage regression prevention and time-to-fix.
Collaboration & Enablement
- Partner with Engineering QA and DevOps to embed accessibility automation into existing pipelines.
- Align functional and accessibility test strategies.
- Mentor teams on writing accessible UI code interpreting Axe results and resolving issues efficiently.
- Serve as a technical liaison with Deque and other tooling partners.
Governance & Reporting
- Ensure continuous compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA and EAA standards through automated monitoring.
- Maintain automation standards test patterns and CI/CD accessibility gates.
- Support third-party and vendor evaluations by assessing automation readiness and accessibility risk.
- Produce reporting on accessibility coverage regressions caught pre-release and trend analysis from Axe Monitor.
- Communicate findings clearly to engineering leaders and executives emphasizing risk reduction and delivery efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in digital accessibility with a strong focus on automation and engineering.
- Expert-level knowledge of WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 and WAI-ARIA standards.
- Strong understanding of HTML CSS and JavaScript including modern single-page application behavior.
- Hands-on experience with Deque Axe Monitor including configuration and transactional scripting.
- Experience with Deque Axe DevTools for rule validation and debugging.
- Proven experience integrating accessibility automation into Selenium-based frameworks.
- Experience embedding accessibility validation into CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins GitHub Actions Azure DevOps).
- Strong debugging skills related to dynamic content selectors timing issues and unstable automation scripts.
- Experience with Git and enterprise automation practices.
- Must be local to Houston or Chicago and willing to work in a hybrid environment.
