The Role
Mount Vernon School seeks an innovative and collaborative Upper School Humanities teacher with expertise in History. At Mount Vernon Humanities instructors teach a series of courses that integrate Literature History and English Language Arts skills. Versatility collaboration and openness to innovative instructional practices are essential. Availability to sponsor athletic artistic or academic teams/clubs is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide meaningful instruction in Grades 9-12 Humanities using a variety of research-based teaching methods including inquiry-based approaches project-based learning design thinking and other innovative educational frameworks
- Create well-planned nine-week units that connect students to the real-world learning opportunities
- Create differentiated lessons to match the needs of each student in the classroom
- Timely maintenance of accurate and comprehensive records of each students performance and progress & communication with students/families pertaining to progress
- Care and nurture for the social and emotional needs of each student
- Maintenance of an organized inviting and student-centered learning environment
- Participation in duties (e.g. lunch enrichment and carpool) and others as assigned
- Possess strong character with an absolute drive for excellence a team-oriented spirit and a commitment to meeting the learning and social-emotional needs of students

- Ability to cultivate respectful and affirming environments
- A track record of giving high-quality responsive feedback
- Understanding of competency-based assessment and a mastery approach to learning
- Proficiency in Google Suite & Mac/Apple OS
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Humanities education History Social Sciences Psychology English or a related field
- Classroom teaching experience preferably in a high school or independent school setting
- Proficiency with technological tools and platforms
