Senior Property Underwriter (SVP)
For our client a well-established Reinsurer group we are currently looking for a senior Property Underwriter to be based in Zurich.
Reporting directly to the Underwriting Manager the Underwriter will be responsible for the production marketing and analysis of the regional European property reinsurance business.
This individual will have a strong International Property Underwriting background with a focus on European business with established broker and client relationships. She/he will be responsible for identifying and cultivating partnerships with clients and broker relationships. This individual will be a thought-leader and seek new opportunities to deploy expertise to solve critical issues impacting its clients.

Your responsibilities
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of a profitable book of business. Handles day-to-day underwriting and assists in the management of property portfolio.
- Build and manage client and relationships
- Share market insights with team members regarding market dynamics including opportunities and threats.
- Maintain a high level of expertise and product knowledge to serve as a resource for clients and staff.
- Identify design and drive marketing synergies by developing creative solutions to client problems.
- Maximize use of risk and underwriting tools and analytics; enhances the risk management culture within the team.
- Expert UW technical competence particularly in Property CAT but also getting familiar with other lines of business
- The SVP will be expected to work collaboratively with partners and peers across a global footprint.
- Work with the Underwriting Manager to create and execute a comprehensive business development and marketing strategies working both individually and within a team. These strategies are to be developed in co-ordination with both internal teams and external business partners across Europe.
Your profile & required qualifications
- A college or university degree required
- A minimum of 7 to 10 years experience in the (re)insurance business with deep knowledge of global insurance and reinsurance markets. A demonstrably successful underwriting track record.
- Good understanding of Property Cat per Risk and proportional lines. Must be aware of regional differences in contract coverages and reinsured perils.
- Has a deep understanding of catastrophe modeling reinsurance pricing schemes and the role and impact of actuarial finance and claims in the underwriting process.
- An ability to grasp actuarial concepts and interpret model results accurately.
- A reputation for managing effective relationships with clients and brokers.
- Exhibits effective analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Communicates effectively and receptive to new ideas
- Reacts effectively to changing conditions. Anticipates and constructively advances the need for positive change
- Exhibits solid individual and team leadership skills
- Demonstrates sensitivity respects cultural differences and always acts in an ethical manner
- Acts courageously. Makes unpopular decisions in the best interests of the company
- Must be able to deal with all people in order to be most effective
- Intellectual curiosity analytical ability and negotiating skills are critical to success in the position
- Good understanding of portfolio management
- Excellent written and verbal skills essential
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally at all levels of the organization as well as externally with key clients brokers and vendors
- Travel required
