Job Title:Laundry Assistant
Department: Housekeeping
Pay Rate: $12.00
Shift Available: 11:00am- 7:30pm (Monday- Friday)

Responsibilities:
- Maintain all areas of the laundry including laundry processing equipment and linen cupboards in a clean hygienic and tidy condition.
- Ensure that all cleaning equipment and materials are maintained in a safe clean and efficient condition and report to the Laundry Supervisor where any equipment requires repair or replacement.
- Ensure that all chemical used in the laundry room are replenished as required and that the Laundry Supervisor is made aware of the need to order chemical stocks to ensure the continuous operation of laundry processing.
- Process all household lined and residents personal clothing ensuring that items are processed at the correct temperature according to the type of fabric and that all items are thoroughly cleaned and stain free.
- Ensure that any items that require disinfection are processed correctly and that infection control policies are strictly adhered to including the correct method of the handling items that have been soiled with body products including the use of personal protective equipment.
- Ensure that all items of personal clothing and household linen are in a good state of repair and bring to the attention of the Laundry Supervisor any items that require replacement. Ensure that personal clothing is clearly labelled with the residents name.
- Return all household linens and residents personal clothing to linen cupboards or the residents residence as appropriate.
- Must understand responsibilities in relation to Fire Procedures Health and Safety OSHA Infection Control and Emergency Aid.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the general scope of the position be aware of social activities connected with the residents and understand there is a possibility of working outside the normal working hours.
- Ability to relate to older people in a sensitive manner.
- Maintain a positive attitude and commitment to high standards of laundry duties while respecting the individual wishes of residents.
- Ability to work as part of a team and to promote a harmonious relationship by recognizing that everyone has a contribution to make.
- All duties must be carried out to comply with; notification of accidents and other health and safety requirements statutory legislation in particular the OSHA and hygiene regulations nationally and locally agreed codes of good practice fire precautions EO and the Trusts anti-discriminatory policy.
- Responsible for the health and safety of anybody else who may be affected by your acts or omissions.
Physical Demands:
Physical activities are required and make up essential functions of this position. The employee must be able to perform the following with or without accommodation.
- This employee must be capable of standing (4-7 hours per shift) sitting and walking (1-2 hours per shift) intermittently throughout the workday balancing climbing crouching bending finger dexterity grasping kneeling lifting pulling pushing reaching repetitive motions stooping carrying and climbing stairs occasionally.
- Be able to lift and carry weights from 1-50 pounds safely and on an individual basis. Weights in excess of 50 pounds are to be managed with appropriate assistance.
- Pushing and pulling of similar weight capacities may also be required and are to be accomplished with assistance as necessary to preserve the safety standards of this facility.
