Job Summary

The role:  As a Recreation Aide (Certified Instructor II) you will be working as part of a team to plan implement lead and participate in a range of appropriate recreational activities and experiences for children (6-11yrs) and youth (12-18 yrs) with diverse abilities. It is important you are able to implement a child centered approach to leadership that focuses on supporting each individuals social and emotional needs in a camp addition you will attend to the emotional physical and hygiene needs of participants

What we offer: The rate of pay for this short term auxiliary CUPE bargaining unit position(s) is $27.84 per hour plus 12% in lieu of benefits (this is equivalent to a wage of $31.18 per hour). The successful candidate(s) will also have access to a reduced cost Employee Wellness Pass for Recreation facilities and programs. 

Season: The season for these short-term auxiliary roles typically starts in July and ends in late August working full-time hours. The successful candidates will be required to attend training week that runs June 29 to July 3 2026.

Recreation Aide (Certified Instructor II) - Job Description


Qualifications :

Education/Training

  • Must possess one of the following: Community Support Worker Certificate Education Assistant Certificate Community Mental Health Certificate Special Needs Worker Program or equivalent certification.
  • Courses in Recreation Services e.g. High Five Leadership Training Managing Challenging Behaviors or Child and Youth Care etc.
  • Emergency First Aid (or equivalent) with CPR-C/AED.

Experience

  • Minimum one (1) year of related experience working with neurodiverse individuals within the last five (5) years.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have sufficient physical strength and ability to lift and transfer children/youth with physical challenges.
  • Ability to successfully attain a clean criminal record and vulnerable sector check prior to start of employment.
