Position Overview
The Manufacturing Engineer plays a critical role in optimizing machining and mechanical assembly operations within a high-performance machine shop environment. This position drives continuous improvement initiatives develops advanced CNC manufacturing processes and leads cross-functional efforts to improve productivity quality safety and cost-efficiency.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on expertise in CNC programming tooling and fixture design process engineering and Lean manufacturing methodologies with a strong foundation in mechanical systems and production optimization.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Process Engineering
Troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day manufacturing process issues across machining and assembly operations
Develop validate and optimize CNC programs for new product introductions and existing production lines
Design and implement CNC tooling fixtures gauges and custom test equipment
Support product launches through process validation capability studies and workflow optimization
Conduct time studies and labor analysis to establish production standards and improve throughput
Continuous Improvement & Lean Initiatives
Lead and participate in Kaizen events Lean manufacturing projects and cost reduction initiatives
Apply root cause analysis techniques (5 Whys Fishbone corrective action plans) to resolve quality and process issues
Identify and implement new manufacturing technologies to improve efficiency and reduce scrap
Track and analyze production KPIs assembly efficiencies and departmental performance metrics
Production Support & Documentation
Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and manufacturing routers
Develop and update shop floor work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Maintain tooling and fixture logs for preventive maintenance and inventory tracking
Support maintenance teams with troubleshooting of capital equipment and machining centers
Capital Planning & Facility Optimization
Identify capital equipment needs and prepare Capital Purchase Requests (CPRs)
Participate in annual budget planning to forecast cost savings and capacity expansion
Design and implement plant layout improvements to enhance workflow ergonomics and productivity
Quality & Compliance
Collaborate with Engineering and Quality Assurance to ensure compliance with technical drawings GD&T standards and ISO 9001:2015 quality systems
Investigate product complaints and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
Qualifications
Education
Required Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in a Manufacturing Engineering or Process Engineering role
Hands-on experience with machining operations CNC equipment and mechanical assembly processes
Experience designing assembly and CNC fixtures and tooling systems
CNC programming experience with Fanuc and Okuma controls preferred
Direct involvement in Lean Manufacturing implementation continuous improvement and Kaizen events
Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 or similar quality management systems
Technical Skills
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings blueprints and engineering specifications
Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks) for tooling and fixture design
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel Word PowerPoint Access Project)
Experience with process optimization root cause analysis time studies and labor standards development
