Employment Term (days): 187Primary Purpose:
Assist teachers and campus staff in preparing and managing classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher or campus administrator to support student learning and promote a safe productive classroom environment.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate
- Meets ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) criteria by:
- Completion of two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
- Possession of an associate degree (or higher); or
- Successful completion of an approved paraprofessional assessment
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and adults
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- Experience working with children preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support
- Assist teacher/administrator in preparing instructional materials classroom displays and learning activities.
- Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
- Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Help maintain a neat orderly and positive classroom environment.
- Assist with inventory care and maintenance of materials supplies and equipment.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information.
- Help the teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Perform other instructional support duties as assigned.
Student Management
- Help supervise students throughout the school day inside and outside the classroom including lunchroom bus and playground duties.
- Maintain discipline in the absence of the teacher according to established classroom rules and campus policies.
- Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
Other
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance and enhance skills.
- Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Equipment Used:
Copier personal computer typewriter audiovisual equipment and other standard office or classroom equipment.
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
- Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting
- Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
- Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
- Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; may require districtwide travel
- Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
