York School District One is seeking a motivated Head Coach and program leader to lead our 9th Grade boys basketball program at York Comprehensive High School into a competitive region and state power.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience: Prior coaching experience at the middle school AAU or high school assistant level. While head coaching experience is not required a proven track record of teaching fundamental skills to high-school-aged athletes is essential.
- System Alignment: Deeply committed to executing the Varsity Head Coachs vision including offensive sets defensive schemes and terminology. Must be willing to be a student of the program.
- Out-of-Season Commitment: Actively participates in YCHS-authorized out-of-season workouts and Spring/Summer speed and conditioning. This role is a year-round commitment to the development of York basketball.
- Relationship Management: Ability to build professional clear-boundary relationships with 9th-grade students parents and staff. Must act as the primary bridge for athletes transitioning from the recreation/middle school level into the high school culture.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong command of basketball fundamentals and the ability to break down complex Varsity concepts into digestible teaching points for younger players.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) rules and regulations to ensure 100% compliance at the freshman level.
- Organizational Energy: High-energy leader who can maintain discipline and organization during practices. Must be a teammate to the Varsity staff prioritizing the long-term health of the program over individual win-loss records.
