The Position
The Yuba City Fire Department is currently recruiting for Fire Marshal!
This recruitment will close on Wednesday March 18 2026 at 5pm (PST).
As a Fire Marshal you will direct plan organize manage and review the work of staff in the Fire Prevention Bureau responsible for performing fire inspection investigation and prevention duties. This management role is responsible for performing diverse specialized and complex work involving significant accountability and decision-making responsibilities. The Fire Marshal is responsible for:- Reviewing plans for compliance with established codes and requirements for new construction improvement projects fire detection and fire suppression systems.
- Developing and implementing policies and procedures for assigned programs and budget administration and reporting.
- Coordinating activities with other divisions departments and outside agencies.
- Fostering cooperative working relationships with other department divisions intergovernmental and regulatory agencies and various public and private groups.
- Providing highly responsible and complex professional assistance to management in areas of expertise.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Education: Equivalent to completion of an Associates degree with major coursework in Fire Technology Fire Administration Public Administration or a closely related field.
Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in the fire service or closely related field including at least two (2) years as a Fire Prevention Officer/Inspector in a governmental fire prevention bureau or agency. Direct supervisory experience is highly desirable.
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of a valid California Drivers License and a satisfactory driving record to be maintained throughout employment.
Possession of a California PC 832 certificate.
Possession of valid Fire Investigator certificate issued by California Office of the State Fire Marshal (CSFM).
Possession of or ability to obtain a Plans Examiner certificate issued by the CSFM within 18 months of being appointed.
Possession of or ability to obtain a Fire Marshal certificate issued by the CSFM within 18 months of being appointed.
The Ideal Candidate:
The Fire Marshal will serve as a technical resource for the Fire Prevention Bureau and requires the use of considerable independence initiative and discretion. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and communication skills as well as experience in a supervisory role in the fire service.
