Job Summary
Ohmstede Ltd is seeking a machinist to set up and operate conventional special purpose and computer numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts fit and assemble machined parts into complete units applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedure.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Must be able to comprehend instructions from supervisors and/or co-workers.
Applies knowledge of shop mathematics machinability of materials and layout techniques.
Studies blueprints sketches drawings manuals specifications or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece sequence of operations and setup requirements.
Measures marks and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
Selects aligns and secures holding fixtures cutting tools attachments accessories and materials on machines such as mills lathes jug borers grinders and shapers.
Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed feed coolant flow and depth and angle of cut or enters commands to retrieve input or edit computerized machine control media.
Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly using jigs fixtures surface plate surface table hand tools and power tools.
Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly using measuring instruments such as micrometers height gauges and gauge blocks.
May install machined replacement parts in mechanisms machines and equipment and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
May operate welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
May develop specifications from general description and draw sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
May confer with engineers production personnel programmers or others to resolve machine or assembly problems.
May specialize in setting up and operation NC machines and machine centers and be designated
Numerical Control Machine Machinist.
Communicates verbally/effectively in English with supervisors and co-workers for resolution of
any questions regarding safety job conduct and product quality control.
Operates vehicles industrial cleaning equipment or power tools when authorized and qualified to
do so and in accordance with established company rules and work orders.
Cleans up work area and equipment after work is completed.
Complies with all applicable rules regulations policies and procedures of the company.
Must be able to work when necessary plus reasonable overtime on day or night and/or
weekends.
Marginal Job Functions:
Performs various QC duties/record keeping
Aids crane operator by visual and voice signals when parts are being moved.
Assists in tool room. Hands out tools and does record keeping.
Uses broom and other cleaning equipment to maintain the work area in a clean orderly
environment.
Operate CNC drill.
Assists in shipping and receiving material/record keeping.
All of the above duties can be performed with the limits of occasional 50 pound lifting long
periods of standing..

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum three to four years of related experience
Knowledge of machining practices
Must possess basic math skills
Must be able to read and interpret simple measuring devises
Must be able to read and write English
Must be able to read and interpret drawings
Physical Demands
Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time
Must be able to bend push pull twist squat crawl lift and climb
Requires the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
Work Environment
Will work in heat noisy dusty dirty cold environment
May be exposed to chemicals and pinching hazards
