Following its establishment in 2012 Plzeň has grown into our fastest-growing Engineering Development Center in Europe. The center focuses on the design and development of Lear products including complex seating mechanisms and structures foams coatings plastics and trim components. The vision for Plzen is not to work as an internal supplier for our European business units but to develop into a leading Design and Development Center working on projects for all major European OEM customer groups from concept phase through to delivery.
Lears iDEA Strategy Innovation Digitalization
Industry 4.0 within Lear Corporation is underpinned through the integration of intelligent digital technologies and analytical systems into manufacturing and industrial processes. Lear Corporations industry 4.0 strategy is primarily divided into 2 key operating functions. Firstly the successful project management and execution of industry 4.0 initiatives into our manufacturing operations. Secondly the digital analysis and data gleaned from visual management systems ensuring Lear takes informed decisions across its wider business maximizing our operational efficiency whilst upholding the highest quality standards ensuring that Lears operational and financial objectives can be achieved.
Position Description
As part of the EU iDEA Team the iDEA Project Engineer is tasked with supporting the execution of the iDEA projects within the fields of Robotics Automation Maintenance Digital Twin Vision Systems and EOL Systems with the aim of operationalizing them into EU & Africa JIT Trim and Structures Plants as part of the EU I4.0 strategy. Working as part of the deployment team specifically for AI projects being implemented across the plants by managing key aspects of each project whilst supporting communication with designated suppliers collaborating with plant teams to deliver working solutions that align with Lears overall iDEA strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and support standards for equipment automation controls and manufacturing processes.
- Contribute to the creation of the Industry iDEA playbook aligned with corporate strategy.
- Design and validate fixtures and mechanical solutions for new deployments.
- Lead installation and commissioning of equipment and projects at plant level.
- Coordinate resources with plant teams during installation and testing phases.
- Support onsite trials and feasibility studies across different locations.
- Ensure full compliance with Lear EHS standards and local regulations.
- Deliver user training and documentation for plant stakeholders.
- Conduct and document technical analyses to support solution feasibility and implementation.
Required Skills & Experience
- 35 years experience in Manufacturing Engineering Continuous Improvement or Product Development.
- Proven experience implementing advanced manufacturing solutions in operational environments.
- Strong mechanical and fixture design skills; knowledge of GD&T; proficiency in AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams; familiarity with CE certification.
- Knowledge of IET wiring standards LOTO procedures and safety practices; ATEX/CompEx awareness is a plus.
- Basic PLC understanding (I/O wiring addressing safe isolation); experience with commissioning tests.
- Good understanding of ergonomics and HSE requirements.
- Basic network knowledge (TCP/IP addressing subnetting VLANs) and ability to troubleshoot connectivity with PLCs HMIs cameras etc.
- Strong analytical and problemsolving skills with attention to detail.
- Confident communicator able to present to plant teams and central stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel as needed and maintain a strong safety mindset.
Qualifications
- University degree in Mechanical Industrial Engineering or a related technical field.
- Fluency in English (written and verbal).
