Are you passionate about pushing the frontier of catalysis science TheCenter for Visualizing Catalytic Processes (VISION)at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is offering multiple PhD scholarships in 2026 focusing on nanoparticle catalysis using advanced operando electron microscopy. If you thrive in a collaborative cutting-edge setting and want to make a global impact we want to hear from you!
Responsibilities and qualifications
The PhD scholarships address four exciting all positions you will collaborate closelywith a group of PhD students postdocs and international leading scientists all working at the technological edge of modern electron microscopy for advancing catalysis science. The four topics are:
You must have a two-year masters degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year masters degree.
Your application must specify which research topic appeals most to your ambitions and include a concise description of your research skills and experience.
We favor candidates with a degree in physics chemistry or materials Topic 1-3 candidates must have documented skills in atomic-resolution electron microscopy/spectroscopy microfabricated devices 2D materials catalysis and/or surface science. For Topic 4 candidates must have documented skills within computational modelling of atomistic processes. For all topics experience in scientific programming e.g. using Python is expected.
As we work in international environment it is important that you have a good communication skills in both spoken and written English and experience in working independently and in a team.
Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme please see DTUs rules for the PhD education.
Assessment
The assessment will be made Associate Professor Christian Damsgaard Professor Jakob Kibsgaard Professor Peter Vesborg Professor Joerg Jinschek and Professor Stig Helveg.

Applications must be submitted as one PDF file containing all materials to be given consideration. To apply please open the link Apply now fill out the online application form and attach all your materials in English in one PDF file. The file must include:
You may apply prior to obtaining your masters degree but cannot begin before having received it.
Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
All interested candidates irrespective of age gender disability race religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply. As DTU works with research in critical technology which is subject to special rules for security and export control open-source background checks may be conducted on qualified candidates for the position.
The Center for Visualizing Catalytic Processes (VISION) is funded by the Danish National Research Foundation and located at DTU is developing and applying a new unique platform for visualizing catalytic nanoparticles and reactions at the atomic-level by integrating cutting-edge electron microscopy microfabricated nanoreactors nanoparticle synthesis and computational modelling. This approach enables new directoperando observations that are urgently needed to advance mechanistic insight into catalytic processes at the atomic-scale.
VISIONs activities are centered around a newone-of-a-kind electron microscope housed in DTUs new Climate Challenge Laboratory building. The new laboratory hosts the VISION center the Surface Physics and Catalysis section the CatTheory section and the newly established Pioneer Center CAPeX as a vibrant collaborative research environment with internationally leading scientists in the fields of catalysis and power-to-X.
Technology for people
DTU develops technology for people. With our international elite research and study programmes we are helping to create a better world and to solve the global challenges formulated in the UNs 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Hans Christian Ørsted founded DTU in 1829 with a clear mission to develop and create value using science and engineering to benefit society. That mission lives on today. DTU has 13500 students and 6000 employees. We work in an international atmosphere and have an inclusive evolving and informal working environment. DTU has campuses in all parts of Denmark and in Greenland and we collaborate with the best universities around the world.
