To learn more about the NC Department of Labor please visit our website at Elevator and Amusement Device Bureau of the Department of Labor under the direction of the North Carolina Commissioner of Labor is charged with the responsibility for administering North Carolina General Statute Chapter 95Article 14A known as the Elevator Safety Act of North Carolina the Amusement Device Safety Act Chapter 95 Article14B and the Passenger Tramway Safety Act Chapter 95 Article 15. Activities include but are not limited to inspecting elevators amusement rides and tramways to ensure compliance with the above Safety Acts of North Carolina and the North Carolina Administrative Code Title 13 Chapter 15.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Recruitment Range: $55221.00 - $72100.00
QEI Recruitment Range: $55221.00- $79310.00
Applicants must reside in Guilford County or surrounding counties or relocate within 30 days of the hire date.
*This position is a field-based teleworker.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies
All NC Department of Labor Elevator Inspectors are required to be certified
as a Qualified or Certified Elevator Inspector (in accordance with ASME QEl-1) from an organization granted accreditation under ISO/IEC 17024 by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) prior to conducting independent elevator inspections. The QEI certification requires a rigorous background check and examination process and the inspector must continue to maintain these qualifications based on the ASME QEI-1 Standard for Qualified Elevator Inspectors. If a candidate does not already have this certification when applying for a position with NCDOL once hired they will be given study time and two opportunities to take the QEI examination. NCDOL will pay for two examination fees. If an employee does not pass the QEI exam after two attempts the employee will be separated from the agency. A candidate must read and sign an acknowledgement of this requirement during the interview process.

Minimum Education and Experience
Some state job postings say you can qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience. High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience in the construction inspection erection or servicing of elevators and related equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Requirement Must obtain QEI (Quality Elevator Inspector) certification within one year of employment.EEO Statement
