Bendigo Health invites Expressions of Interest (EOI) from suitably qualified International Medical Graduates (IMGs) wishing to participate in the Bendigo Health Rural Generalist IMG Prep Program (BRiPREP) hosted at Bendigo Health and scheduled to commence in September 2026.
This structured bridging program delivered by Bendigo Health is designed to support IMGs to become work-ready for the Australian healthcare system with a strong focus on rural and regional practice in Victoria. The program combines core knowledge modules with a 12-week supervised clinical placement enabling participants to build clinical skills cultural capability and professional readiness in line with Australian standards.
Submission of an Expression of Interest allows Bendigo Health to assess eligibility suitability and cohort demand. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to progress to the formal application and interview stage.
Program Structure
The program comprises both core knowledge modules and a supervised clinical skills and placement component. The core knowledge modules cover the Australian healthcare system healthcare processes and teams cultural awareness patient safety professional roles and responsibilities medical registration and credentialing requirements continuing professional development and sociocultural considerations relevant to clinical practice in Australia.
The core skills and placement components are delivered through a twelve-week supervised placement with Townsville Hospital and Health Services. During this placement the IMG Prep Medical Practitioner rotates through four clinical disciplines and works as part of the healthcare team under AHPRA Level 1 registration or higher. Core skills training includes electronic medical records cultural safety Advanced Life Support ethical practice cultural consulting clinical reasoning intravenous cannulation team-based care recognition and management of the acutely deteriorating patient and other clinically relevant skills.
At the commencement of the program participants will complete a learning needs analysis to identify individual learning priorities and inform placement focus. Throughout the program workplace-based assessments and structured feedback will further refine learning objectives. This process culminates in the development of an individual Professional Development Plan and the awarding of a Certificate of Completion upon successful finalisation of the placement.
