Job Title:Writing Center Peer Tutor Work Study

Location:Ellsworth Community College

Rate of Pay:$12.00 per hour

Summary:Are you particularly good at writing papers or giving speeches Do you enjoy helping others Are you able to guide and facilitate discussion without giving students the answer providing guidance with correct grammar punctuation proofreading or formatting These are very real skills and if you possess them you may enjoy being a writing center peer tutor! Writing Center peer tutors aid with writing papers or speeches and proofreading papers in the ECC Library. Tutors are typically current ECC students who have completed courses such as Composition 105 or 106 and speech (subject availability varies by semester)

Essential Job Duties:

Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring in writing across all disciplines.
Assist students at any stage of the writing process (planning drafting revising editing). Support students in developing grammar structure citation and critical thinking skills.
Encourage student independence and confidence in writing.
Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and student progress.
Collaborate with faculty and staff to support writing assignments and student learning.
Accurately log work hours and sessions in Paycor and approve timecards by the designated deadline.
Help maintain a welcoming inclusive and supportive tutoring environment.

Abilities:

Successful completion of a course he/she will be tutoring (Passing grade of B or higher)
Maintain good academic standing i.e. a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.
Exceptions to the above require prior approval and are at the discretion of the director of student success.
Must legally protect all students right to privacy and never identify who he/she is tutoring nor make any comments to others about the student he/she is tutoring.
Communicate any schedule changes concerns etc. promptly.
Check iavalley e-mail account daily or every other day.
Be at work on time leave on time and treat every student with respect.
Comfortable in interacting with all students regardless of their academic abilities nationalities races ancestries age religious beliefs sexes marital status and sexual orientation.
