Job Summary

Southeast Colorado Hospital is a CAH with 10 IP beds with a total of 4 ER rooms. 2 RNs split the IP floor and take turns with ER patients assisting and communicating with each as a nursing team along with CNA to assist. POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting and accountable to the CNO the Registered Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing the Emergency Room is responsible for identifying patient needs and priorities for care through assessment planning for and delegating care based on patient needs executing Provider interventions and evaluating the patients response to care and progress towards outcomes. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES Assess the patient s physical and psychosocial condition on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care. Develop a plan of patient care reflecting significant nursing diagnosis and interventions to achieve desired patient outcomes involving the patient/family and healthcare team in this process. Implement the patient plan of care in collaboration with the healthcare team. Evaluate patient outcomes effectiveness of plan of care and readiness for discharge. Revise as needed and make referrals when indicated. Complete required documentation in an accurate and timely manner. Utilize manual and automated information systems to improve efficiency and effect productivity. Demonstrate a current working knowledge of equipment instrumentation and medications. Adhere to the standards policies procedures and goals of the Hospital District. Act as a liaison in coordinating patient care activities with nurses physicians and allied health professionals. Communicate patient s plan of care and significant changes to all members of the interdisciplinary team and to the patient family and significant others. Participate in and support performance improvement and risk management activities. Provide education as indicated after assessing the learning needs of the patient family staff members and students. Demonstrate cost effectiveness by using supplies judiciously anticipating needs for special supplies and equipment and making recommendations for change. Complete required continuous training and education including department specific requirements. Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids chemical disinfectants radiation asbestos and other hazardous substances. Attends meetings and in-service sessions as directed. Requires regular attendance and punctuality. Performs other assigned duties. Emergency Room Coverage Initiates assessment based on the patients presenting problems or needs the physicians medical diagnosis in a timely manner. Collects key information from patient family laboratory and other medical reports. Implements T-System and documents assessment including nursing diagnoses or other clinical judgments. Completes ongoing assessments as determined by patient condition. Performs therapeutic nursing interventions as ordered by the Provider consistent with primary and population-specific standards of care and practice. Determines the impact of nursing interventions on the patients condition and recognizes the patients progress towards meeting desired outcomes. Documents care based on standards of care and practice and/or clinical priorities for documentation including assessment and ongoing assessment findings updated clinical priorities for documentation and therapeutic nursing interventions with special attention to patient education and discharge planning interventions. Demonstrates ability to manage the care of patients with conditions in the Emergency Room. Interacts with patients/families with a variety of developmental and sociocultural backgrounds. Provides information to patients and families which reduces anxiety and conveys an attitude of acceptance sensitivity and caring. Maintains professional relationships and conveys relevant information to other members of the health care team. Relays information appropriately over telephone pagers and other communication devices.

Shift: 36hr/wk with potential for overtime; 6p-6a 3 shifts per week. (Holidays when needed) contract 8wks extension possible if position not filled with permanent employee. ***The month of March may possibly be dayshift 6a-6p during transition (that is the position that is transferring out then our FT nightshift nurse is moving to fulltime dayshift position) starting in April the contract will be fulltime nightshift.
