Job Summary
- Must possess a current valid unrestricted RN license in Alaska at time of application.
- Must have or obtain a flu vaccination as a condition of employment.
- Start date is at least 4 weeks after fingerprint cards are processed in Juneau.
- Provides and coordinates comprehensive nursing care for patients of all ages using professional knowledge and independent judgment.
- Follows provider orders established standards of care and hospital/nursing policies and procedures.
- Maintains accountability for clinical nursing decisions and actions consulting supervisors or ancillary departments as needed.
- Reacts calmly and makes sound decisions in emergency situations.
- Delegates and supervises CNA/Tech staff appropriately.
- Implements safe therapeutic and efficient patient care using infection control measures.
- Sets priorities based on patient acuity and needs anticipates potential problems and adapts to changing circumstances.
- Administers age-specific medications and treatments accurately and safely.
- Coordinates care with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare team members.
- Educates patients and families about tests procedures disease processes and self-care.
- Provides emotional psychological and intellectual support to patients and families.
- Conducts thorough patient assessments including age-related and psychosocial factors.
- Develops implements and updates individualized nursing care plans based on patient condition and interdisciplinary input.
- Documents care assessments interventions and patient progress accurately and completely.
- Participates in discharge planning and ensures after-care plans are in place.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
- Participates in ongoing professional development completes all required certifications (BLS PALS upon hire; ACLS within 6 months) and mandatory training.
- Leads and mentors RN and CNA staff supports orientation of new staff and participates in staff meetings and unit goal setting.
- Adheres to dress code hospital policies and departmental procedures.
- Communicates effectively and positively with patients families staff and the healthcare team.
- Identifies educational needs and provides or coordinates appropriate teaching for staff patients and families.
- Addresses and escalates unresolved issues or concerns as appropriate.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure quality patient care.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Current Alaska RN license.
- BLS and PALS certification upon hire; ACLS within 6 months.
- Knowledge and competency in nursing care principles emergency procedures and pharmaceuticals.
- Ability to recognize and respond to emergent and adverse patient conditions promptly.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Leadership and teamwork abilities.
- One year clinical nursing experience preferred; specialty experience preferred.
