Description

The vision of the National Registry Research Department is to develop and foster EMS-prepared researchers to function with the highest level of scientific integrity to improve and ensure high-quality and innovative National Registry products and processes through evidence and collaboration. This Mentorship program will further the mission to contribute to the body of scientific out-of-hospital knowledge to improve the competency health safety and wellness of EMS professionals and the patients they serve.

The National Registry has developed a 9-week Summer EMS Research Mentorship Workshop. The primary goal for the attendees of this workshop is to attain a basic understanding of the content-specific scope of current EMS research (e.g. resuscitation and airway management) develop a basic understanding of research methodology in EMS and benefit from close mentor support and network development with nationally recognized active EMS researchers.


Workshop Structure:

  • The mentorship workshop will begin the week of June 2nd 2026
  • Workshop sessions will be held every Tuesday (virtually) in 2-hour time blocks (2 to 4 p.m. EST)
  • The mentorship program will end the week of July 28 2026
  • Participation in the mentorship workshop is unpaid
  • Participants will be grouped into groups of 4 and assigned a mentor
  • 20-hour program consisting of 8 one-hour speaker presentations 2 one-hour small group mentor meetings and 1 thirty-minute one-on-one session with a mentor
Requirements

Experience Education Certification and Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Masters preferred
  • National EMS Certification (EMT level or above) is required.

Desirable Characteristics:

  • Possesses exceptional interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and be exceptionally creative and resourceful.
  • Has high ethics and integrity.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong desire to develop ones self.

Specific Requirements:

  • Must be able to read write speak and understand the English language.
  • Must be able to perform advanced math skills adding subtracting dividing etc.
  • Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
  • Must be able to accomplish tasks via the electronic environment such as video conferencing and digital collaboration.
  • Must be able to effectively use a keyboard.
  • Must reside in the United States.
