Job Summary

Job Title - Solution Architect

Location -Pune

JOB SUMMARY

Solution Architecture is defined as the Management of SPX Process and Automation Engineering Solutions at the Proposals stage. The Solution Architect role is the Proposal equivalent to the Lead Engineer role during project execution.

The Solution Architect is responsible for delivery of the engineering PFD Process and Mechanical design outputs for opportunities during bid proposals. He/she will be responsible for the technical scope of the proposal (or in some cases a sub-area of the scope). For the scope area for which they are responsible the Solution Architect must:

  • Read RFQ listen to customerto define a process solution technically & costly suitable to the described requirements
  • Function as the technical & process interface point for customers and also the SPX internal organization.
  • Provide leadership to engineers Functional & Domains representatives - working with him to ensure outputs meet schedule budgetary and quality requirements
  • Ensure that the scope delivered from engineering is aligned with the customer RFQ and propose KPIs to acknowledge the performance of the SPX solution.
  • Consolidate engineering hours assessments & propose an execution strategy work out with Regional Head of Engineering and Directors - to get the most relevant & competitive offer.
  • Ensure adherence with relevant SPX Flow procedures and practices (e.g. IDEFs)

Depending on the scope of the project &/or the team load the Solution Architect may be required to undertake Lead Project Engineer role or engineering design tasks corresponding to their own core discipline and as such reference should be made to relevant job descriptions such as LPE Process Engineer Mechanical Engineer Automation Engineer etc.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Solution Architects duties include but are not limited to the following aspects.

The Solution Architect is expected to possess relevant experience of engineering design and execution from within the industries which we serve.

  • Safety & Environment
    • Ensuring that plant designs are safe
    • Ensuring that environmental impacts of designs have been considered appropriately
    • Ensuring that relevant design reviews as defined in SPX Flow procedures have been undertaken fully and that resultant actions have been completed
    • Ensuring compliance with local legislation and regulations (for the locality of the plant/process) which apply to engineering design (e.g. EU Machinery Directive)
    • Promoting a safety culture amongst staff particularly when operating outside of the known office environment (e.g. on customer and supplier sites)

  • Management of Engineering Design Process
    • Coordinating of the Solutions coming from the various GPE & Technical Domains (& key suppliers such as tanks manufacturers powder handling system filling machines)
    • Interfering with Proposals Engineer Bid Process Owner Engineering Teams Technical Experts as required
    • Active management of team members to meet schedule demands including consulting with BPO to ensure alignment with overall quotation timing. Ensuring engineering outputs are delivered:
      • On-time against proposals time schedule
      • To appropriate quality
      • In-line with RFQ/preferred SPX solution
      • According to Domain pre-defined modules/standard
      • Focusing on SPX technology(ies) differentiation
    • Establishing and leading engineering team meetings/discussions as required to achieving the proposals engineering design deliverables. Ask for approval to our customers when contractually required or just deliver documentation for information.
    • Identifying resource needs and ensuring that resource managers are kept informed about ongoing changes to requirements.
    • Ensuring adherence with relevant SPX Flow procedures and practices (e.g. IDEFs)

  • Design Ownership
    • Converting a customer RFQ / need through the definition of an integrated competitive solution creation of PFD mass balance P&IDs when required
    • Owning the engineering process solution throughout the project lifecycle including adapting approach as required to suit changing requirements.
    • Ensuring that the design is developed in line with:
      • Applicable legislation and regulation
      • Customer RFQ/URS requirements & assessed budget
      • SPX references standards and best practices where applicable promoting re-usable of successful solutions
      • The most costs effective solution vs expected performance
      • A list of reachable acceptance criterias (KPI) GPE & Tech Domains commit on.
    • Ensuring that the design promotes SPX solutions and differentiations answering to the customers decision criterias
    • Ensuring that the output of design team is complete and of a consistent standard. Examples include ensuring that:
      • Documentation (e.g. P&IDs layout Utilities requirement product losses Automation Architecture drawings Scada MES etc) utilises the same standards and that these are delivered to a consistent level in terms of content and quality
    • Ensuring all scope elements/sub-systems integrate coherently and that external interfaces are clearly understood and defined.
    • Ensuring that all design information is captured stored and maintained in a suitable structured and accessible location (in line with SPX Flow procedures and practices)
    • Ensuring that Design Reviews are carried out when appropriate
    • Taking care a deviation list is released when SPX solution is not fully compliant with the RFQ received from the customer

  • Communication
    • Engaging with BPO proposals and engineering teams
    • Ensuring appropriate engineering attendance at customer meetings (as agreed with Sales or Bid Process Owner) e.g.:
      • At Commercial review
      • Order of Costs assessment
      • QIA
      • TCR and LEAF when requested
      • Pre-contract sales meetings
      • Customer launch / hand over and internal launch meetings
      • Intermediate review meetings
    • Ensuring appropriate engineering attendance at internal meetings as defined by SPX Flow processes e.g.:
      • Progress meetings
      • Design reviews
    • Leading communication with other SPX Flow stakeholders (e.g. BPO Engineering resource managers SME Supply Chain EHS & Quality).
    • Engaging with Supply Chain to support key equipment costs assessment (initial specification review of supplier quotes etc.)
    • Consulting with installation teams to ensure output designs reflect I&C strategy (skid manufacturing platforms pipe racks site activities limits of scope)

  • Solution costing
    • Providing input to Domains Team Lead to get their engineering hours assessment
    • Consolidating engineering hours assessments from all parties & propose an execution strategy to be reviewed and agreed by regional head of Engineering and Global director.
    • Proposing an execution schedule based on available resources and reviewed with DTL (Domain Team Lead).
    • Checking the engineering scope of work and proposed strategy / costing are consistent. Looking for competitiveness through technical savings / process differentiations

  • Continuous Improvement
    • Providing input into continuous improvement initiatives (e.g. tools development standardisation)
    • Documenting and communicating lessons learned
    • Involvement in knowledge sharing initiatives (e.g. documenting best practices)

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Fluent English both spoken and written.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work within a Global team whilst maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks within a matrix environment.
  • Ability and willingness to work and build relationships with colleagues across multiple function and geographically diverse sites.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to establish a customer trustworthy relationship & promote / sell the SPXFLOW solution
  • The ability to meet high performance standards in a team whilst maintaining ethics and integrity.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree level qualification in appropriate engineering discipline (e.g. Process Mechanical Electrical)
  • Experience in Food Beverage Pharmaceutical and other hygienic industries
  • Experience of working within and leading a technically oriented team
  • Full driving license a strong advantage
  • Good level of competence in Microsoft Office (Word Excel Outlook)
  • Experience of scheduling tools (e.g. Microsoft Project) beneficial
  • Autocad experience beneficial
