Peer Math Tutor

Duty Schedule:
20 Hours Per Week Monday through Friday. Position starts 02/16/2026.
Summary/Objective of Position:
The role of the Peer Math Tutors is to facilitate student learning by helping to clarify content in the courses that requires mathematics assignments and by modeling the use of appropriate study strategies to ensure student success. The Peer Math Tutor will communicate with STEM faculty to gauge the level of instruction of each course in order to assist student learning. The Peer Math Tutor will assist students in basic mathematics intermediate algebra and college level mathematics or any other courses that require mathematics either in-person or online. The Peer Math Tutor will also develop and facilitate structured mathematics sessions/workshops for students.

TUTORING
* Facilitate and guide discussion with students on a one-on-one or group setting on mathematics assignments without doing the work for the student.
* Assist students by appointment particularly if referred by instructor.
* Apply easy to follow instructions to help students understand mathematics course content.
* Assist with online courses when applicable i.e. Zoom Canvas online learning content.
* Collaborate with Learning Center staff and faculty to improve tutoring skills. Create tutoring schedule based on student information material and discussions shared in the tutoring session.
* Maintain strict confidentiality of all students information material and discussions shared in the tutoring session.
* Develop and facilitate math workshops for students. Establish and maintain communication with STEM faculty to develop familiarity with instruction and resources available to students. Provide feedback to faculty on student tutoring progress.
REPORTING
* Keep accurate records and data on all tutoring sessions conducted.
* Complete tutor logs and submit to supervisor at the end of each month.
* Utilize and maintain data usage to reflect viable information to be submitted at the end of each month.
* Log in/out of Paylogics for hours worked
OTHER RELATED DUTIES AS ASSIGNED BUT NOT LIMITED TO
* Assist in general operation of the Learning Center.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Minimum:
One year tutoring and/or classroom teaching experience and work with adult learns. Enrolled in courses at Dine College. Successfully passed Math classes at Dine College and have a CPGPA of 2.5 or higher.
Preferred: One year experience in tutoring College Algebra.
Knowledge:
Good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from various education cultural and social backgrounds.
Knowledge of media platforms applications and data keeping methods.
Adhere to the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1074 ensuring students ID and records are protected.
Skills:
Must be proficient in MS Office Airtable Canvas and all institutional platforms used by staff and students.
Able to learn and utilize other applications and platforms when applicable.
Responsible reliable and punctual to deliver quality tutorial services with a positive Attitude. Good interpersonal skills.
Proficient in conducting and facilitating workshops and presentations.
Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively with students faculty and staff.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to make sound judgements.
Ability to maintain accurate data and record keeping of all tutoring sessions.
Physical Requirements Work Environment & Travel:
May be able to lift pull/push and carry up to 10 pounds. Must be able to travel to other campuses when necessary. May be required to work flexible hours around class schedule.
Other Requirement(s):
Some Navajo language.
