Packet Core Network SME/ Engineer
Brampton - Hybrid (2-3 days from Office)
1. Architecture & Solution Design
Lead the design and integration of packet core network elements including:
o 5G Core (5GC): AMF SMF UPF
o 4G EPC: MME SGW PGW HSS ePDG
Create and maintain high quality architecture documentation such as HLD LLD IP flow diagrams Method of Procedures (MOPs) Test Plans ATP and TOLs.
2. Integration Testing & Validation
Conduct integration and end to end validation testing for core network components.
Ensure solutions align with 3GPP standards vendor specifications and performance benchmarks.
Perform regression testing and support feature enablement across multi vendor environments.
3. Operations & Support
Support daily network operations including monitoring troubleshooting fault management and KPI tracking.
Handle escalations related to packet core performance session failures and interface issues.
Assist NOC/operations teams with incident resolution and network stability improvements.
4. Automation Cloud & Lifecycle Management
Drive automation initiatives using cloud native and virtualization technologies such as:
o Kubernetes Docker
o CNF/VNF lifecycle management
o CI/CD tooling
Support lifecycle upgrade planning version management and continuous improvement initiatives.
5. Performance Optimization
Analyze network behavior to optimize latency throughput resiliency and scalability.
Tune core functions interfaces (SBI N2/N3) and data path performance.
Recommend improvements to architecture configuration or resource allocation.
6. Technical Leadership & Collaboration
Provide technical leadership across engineering teams vendors and internal stakeholders.
Lead multi vendor solution discussions interoperability testing and architectural harmonization.
Write and deliver high quality technical documentation including HLD/LLD white papers PoVs and solution briefsespecially for private 5G and enterprise use cases.
7. Innovation R&D & Lab Enablement
Collaborate with R&D or development teams to validate new features demos and emerging capabilities (e.g. AR/VR IoT MEC).
Support lab setups for testing next gen technologies proofs of concept and performance evaluations.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters degree in Telecommunications Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
8 years of telecom industry experience with strong exposure to 3G/4G/5G packet core technologies.
Proven expertise with:
o 5G Core: AMF SMF UPF
o 4G EPC: MME SGW PGW HSS ePDG
Strong understanding of:
o 3GPP protocols call flows and signaling
o Mobile core architecture interfaces and data plane/control plane functions
Experience working in multi vendor environments and cloud native telecom deployments
