We are seeking to recruit a Senior Dental Nurse to join the nursing team in the Oncology Clinic in the Dental Dublin University Hospital. The position reports to and is accountable to the Director of Nursing and/or Clinic Nurse Manager. This is a permanent whole-time position with 35 hours per week.
The role of the Senior Dental Nurse includes but is not limited to:
Providing a high standard of patient care within the oncology clinics and external institutions as required. Ensure patients are kept informed of any delays.
Supporting and assisting the Director of Nursing and the Clinic Nurse Managers in the efficient running of all oncology clinics areas both internal and external to the Dublin Dental University Hospital (DDUH).
Participate in the development of Policies Procedures and Guidelines along with conducting periodic and annual audits as requested.
Providing a high standard of clinical assistance to all operators within the hospital.
Supervising nursing staff and student nurses as appropriate.
Ensuring a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness in clinical and patient areas. Notify Clinic Nurse Manager (CNM) immediately if areas need attention.
Managing clinical stock control and advising the Clinic Nurse Manager of levels and any stock requirements including requests from staff for non-stock items. Ensuring all completed orders to stores are signed by Clinic Nurse Manager to ensure that they are always aware of all store requisitions.
Ensuring the implementation of Infection Prevention and Control standards within the clinical areas assigned as per the DDUHs protocols and liaising with staff accordingly on this issue.
Assisting with the implementation and maintenance of HIQA standards and procedures.
Ensuring the health and safety of all staff and patients in the clinical area assigned as per DDUH protocols including fire safety.
Ensuring all clinical incidents/accidents and complaints which occur within the clinic are reported to the Clinic Nurse Manager in a timely manner for reporting on QPulse.
Ensuring the implementation of the DDUHs waste management policies within clinical areas.
Ensuring that all chairs and equipment within the clinic are maintained in good working order. Submit appropriate requisitions for repair and replacement. Ensure all routine maintenance of units including Dental Unit Water Line and tap flushing is performed and documented as required.
Managing instrument control to ensure the accurate recording of all instruments/equipment used.
Ensuring an up to date knowledge of all clinical and non-clinical policies procedures and guidelines - new and current.
Maintaining excellent communications with the Clinic Nurse Managers and when appropriate Director of Nursing fellow Senior Dental Nurses and Dental Nurses.
Advising the Clinic Nurse Manager and Director of Nursing on emerging issues.
Carrying out induction/handover procedures for covering and succeeding nurse as required.
Liaising with Dental Nurse Tutors with regard to progress of student nurses and delivery of lectures and training as required.
Completing student nurse log books and student reports as required.
Assisting with student assessments in the hospital and with internal / external examinations.
Providing lectures tutorials and practical workshops to student and qualified nurses within the hospital.
Assisting with the organisation of Continued Professional development courses for external dental nurses.
Assisting with induction course for dental nursing staff and students at the hospital.
Participating in the development of the role of nursing within the hospital.
Performing such other duties appropriate to the office and ad hoc projects as may be assigned to him/her by the Clinic Nurse Manager and Director of Nursing. This may involve carrying out Senior Dental Nurse duties in the Dublin Dental University Hospital or other external agencies when required.
Attending and participating in all meetings as required.

Qualifications Experience & Person Specification
Each candidate must:
Dental Nursing qualification.
Be registered with the Dental Council of Ireland.
Have a minimum of 3 years experience as a qualified Dental Nurse.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Have proven leadership skills.
Understand the role of the Senior Dental Nurse in the organisation.
Be free from any defect or disease which would render him/her unsuitable to hold office and be in a state of health as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
In accordance with HSE Circular 019/2025 - Integrated guidance on health clearance of healthcare workers and the management of healthcare workers living with bloodborne viruses candidates must furnish the Dublin Dental University Hospital with: 1) Evidence of their Hepatitis B Titre Levels 2) Evidence to state that they are Hepatitis B Hepatitis C and HIV Negative. This documentation must all be dated within 6 months of the start date within the Hospital.
