The Collection System Technician is responsible for performing technical and maintenance work of the manufacturing plants. The Collection System Technician performs operations and maintenance work related to mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment common to wastewater and water treatment plants including auxiliary power generation equipment.
SPECIFIC DUTIES (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO)
- Follows general policy guidance of Ocean Reef Community Association (ORCA) and instructions of immediate supervisor.
- Records and interprets data to generate reports for the plant.
- Performs operations and maintenance work related to mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment common to wastewater and water treatment plants including auxiliary power generation equipment.
- Assists with the operation of a secondary level 350000 gal/day wastewater treatment plant wastewater collection system and a reverse osmosis water treatment plant and ancillary facilities.
- Performs manual work in repairing cleaning locating and inspection of the wastewater collection system.
- Operates a variety of light construction equipment and wastewater system cleaning and maintenance.
- Collects samples and performs routine laboratory analyses.
- Responds to emergency call outs during weekends holidays and non-business hours to ensure continued operation of public facilities.
- Performs routine and special housekeeping duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Considerable knowledge of Florida regulations pertaining to wastewater and water plants and collection/ distribution systems.
- Working knowledge of wastewater plants reverse osmosis water treatment plants wastewater collection systems water distribution systems and auxiliary power supply equipment.
- Ability to understand and assist in implementing emergency plans.
- Requires frequent use of hand and power tools personal computer calculator telephone office copier and fax machine.
- Ability to prepare and analyze reports.
- Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees governmental agency personnel contractors utility companies and community members.
- Physical Demands: (reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions).
- Employee is frequently required to sit talk or hear.
- Employee is occasionally required to drive a truck walk climb stairs utilize hand and power tools efficiently handle and feel objects with tools and/ or controls and reaches with hands and arms.

- Specific vision abilities required for this job such as close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Community College and/ or Correspondence courses to improve utilities infrastructure knowledge are desirable.
Experience: One (1) to three (3) years of experience preferred but not required.
Licenses Certificates or Other: A Class C Wastewater Plant Operators License is desirable but not required. A valid Florida Drivers License is required.
Any combination of the above education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the Collection System Technician position will be considered.
