As part of the Propulsion valve team at Gilmour Space you will be responsible for design test and analysis of various rocket propulsion system valves. You will be helping to develop in-house capability and know-how to design manufacture and test liquid rocket engines hybrid motors and/or propulsion fluid systems. How you will contribute to our mission in getting Australia to space:
The below is designed to give you an idea of the role you will play. There will be many more exciting and innovative things to do:
- Design and analyse fluid and mechanical components/subsystems for hybrid and liquid rocket engines
- Develop CAD models and drawings of test stands and rocket engine components
- Formulate hardware test plans support test campaigns and evaluate experimental test results
- Troubleshoot issues and perform root cause analyses
- Assist/lead qualification tests of propulsion components/subsystems
- Develop written procedures and checklist for performing test operations
- Guide the development of written procedures for manufacturing components
- Coordinate the fabrication assembly and integration of propulsion system elements
- Support launch preparations and launch operations as needed
- Perform other duties as requested by Management
Mandatory Qualifications Skills and Experience:
- Bachelors (BS) degree in an Engineering discipline
- 5 years of experience inmechanical fluid system design and analysis in a professional setting (excluding internships)
- Designed developed and tested valve to SMC-016 qualification level reaching TRL 4/5.
- Ability to do complex diagnostics and failure investigation
- Detailed understanding of manufacturing processes and their inherent limitations to design for manufacturability.
- 3 years experience with CAD designing parts and assemblies
(NX/Teamcenter preferred but other relevant experience is valuable) or - 3 years experience with at least one commercial FEA or Multiphysics simulation package (ANSYS preferred or NASTRAN ABAQUS CFD codes etc.)
- 3 years hands-on hardware experience performing fabrication assembly integration and testing.
- NV1 Security Clearance eligible preferred

- 3 years of professional experience in rocket valve development
- Knowledge of standards concerning the design of high-pressure fluid systems
- Ability to manage large assembly models and drawings
- In-depth understanding of the application of GD&T in accordance with ASME 14.5 and its application to complex tolerance stack-ups.
- Ability to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with technicians engineers and managers
- Creative problem solver that can bring multiple disciplines together
- Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced challenging work environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
