Description of Work
The North Carolina Forest Service (NCFS) is designated as an emergency response Division and is a team of professionals who provide forest protection resource management and environmental education to the residents and landowners of North Carolina through a variety of programs. The NCFS provides services to the 100 counties in North Carolina.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Recruitment Range: $39244 - $68679
Knowledge of the operating principles and maintenance of gas-powered internal combustion engines.
Knowledge of the undercarriage of dozers and other tracked equipment.
Experience diagnosing operating defects in automotive equipment and determine the type and extent of repairs needed.
Experience using mechanical electrical and computer systems including databases spreadsheets and email.
Ability to do heavy lifting and pulling when required as related to mechanical duties.

Minimum Education and Experience
Some state job postings say you can qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience. High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of experience in the area of assignment or a sufficient year-for- year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications:
May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I II III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82 subpart F.
Employee must operate a state vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Drivers License.
Either possession of a current Commercial Drivers License on the date of hire OR the North Carolina Commercial Drivers License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training or employer sponsored training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.
