Job Summary

The Design Engineer position at Jim Myers & Sons Inc. (JMS) is a key member of the Mega-Business Unit Design Team and is a fast-paced project-execution-focused role responsible for producing high-quality accurate and manufacturable design deliverables. The Design Engineer develops complete submittal-level drawing packages by translating approved engineering calculations project specifications and project plans into coordinated mechanical equipment designs in accordance with JMS standards.


This role owns detailed design execution for assigned projects while providing elevated CAD judgment and design authority. The Design Engineer leads internal design reviews resolves design coordination and CAD execution issues ensures alignment with manufacturability requirements and delivers complete well-coordinated designs ready for detailing and fabrication following submittal approval. While Project Engineering retains responsibility for engineering calculations the Design Engineer is accountable for the correct implementation of engineering intent into CAD and design deliverables.


Responsibilities Include

Own project design timing quality and completion of assigned design deliverables.

Design mechanical equipment with a high level of accuracy attention to detail and adherence to JMS standards.

Apply engineering calculations project specifications and project plans to produce compliant design solutions.

Serve as the primary CAD and design authority for assigned projects.

Create complete detailed submittal-level drawing packages aligned with project milestones and customer requirements.

Lead internal design reviews coordinate project team input and ensure timely resolution of design comments.

Make authoritative CAD decisions related to layouts assemblies interfaces and model structure within approved engineering intent.

Adhere to project schedules and specifications to meet defined time objectives and key milestones.

Collaborate closely with Project Engineering Manufacturing Engineering and Detailing to resolve design issues and ensure manufacturability.

Incorporate manufacturing feedback and vendor interface requirements into final designs.

Work effectively and efficiently with project team members across multiple concurrent projects.

Provide design support during fabrication detailing installation and troubleshooting including limited travel to plant or field sites as required.

Apply strong analytical logical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve design challenges.

Follow all JMS Inc. policies procedures and quality requirements.



Qualifications Desired Experience and Skills

Minimum of 5 years (6000 hours) of experience in 3D modeling using SolidWorks.

Expert-level 3D design capability; Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) strongly preferred.

Minimum of 2 years of experience with SolidWorks PDM (preferred).

At least 5 years of experience designing mechanical equipment including weldments sheet metal and assemblies.

Experience with detailing using SolidWorks (minimum 2 years preferred).

Strong background in mechanical equipment design with a high level of attention to detail.

Demonstrated experience with power transmission systems including motors gearboxes chain drives shafts and bearings.

Working knowledge of fabrication and manufacturing processes such as bending punching welding and machining.

High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook.

Strong communication skills including the ability to collaborate effectively and negotiate positive outcomes.

Strong analytical logical and problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated desire for continuous learning and ongoing professional development.

Experience in the municipal water and wastewater industry is a plus.


Education

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution is required.
