FULL TIME RECREATION CENTER MAINTENANCE PERSON
Reports To:Recreation Center Building Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent
Gives Direction TO: Part Time Recreation Center Staff
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
Nature of Work
This position is responsible for the cleaning maintenance and operation of recreation facilities including ice rink swimming pool and ball fields/park areas. Supervision is given to part-time recreation center staff. Work hours are typically 40 hours per week primarily evening and weekend shifts.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs daily cleaning facility repairs and maintenance.
- Supervises part time maintenance employees including work assignments.
- Opens and closes facilities.
- Resurfaces ice rinks daily.
- Performs a wide variety of general and semi-skilled maintenance activities (e.g. carpentry painting electrical etc.) to complete projects within established time frames.
- Performs snow and ice removal in outdoor areas of the Recreation Center during winter.
- Performs maintenance at the Recreation Centers outdoor swimming pool.
- Arranges and moves furniture and equipment for special events.
- Inspects maintains and repairs machinery and equipment.
- Stocks and monitors supplies and makes recommendations for ordering.
- Ability to work evening and weekend hours and availability for emergencies after hours.
- Work overtime as required.
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of indoor skating rink operation and related machinery.
- Knowledge of operation and repair of ice resurfacing machine.
- Knowledge of swimming pool operations (special emphasis on diatomaceous earth filtration system).
- Knowledge of building fixtures mechanical equipment and systems.
- Knowledge of carpentry electrical and plumbing.
- Knowledge of chemicals used in facilities.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively operate a variety of hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to operate a pickup truck and snowplow.
- Ability to operate a computer and related software.
- Ability to work mornings nights and weekends as necessary.
Required Education Training & Experience
- High school diploma/G.E.D.
- Two years experience in facilities maintenance. Experience in ice rink swimming pool or similar facilities preferred.
- Must have or be able to acquire state pesticide license within first 12 months of employment.
- Must have or be able to acquire certified pool operator certificate within first 12 months of employment.
- CPR/AED Certification
- Valid Pennsylvania Drivers license is required at time of appointment and must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
Essential Physical Job Functions
The employee is regularly required to sit stand walk bend stoop climb; use hands to handle or feel equipment and supplies. The employee is required to operate office equipment. The employee will need to be able to regularly stand for long periods of time. The employee must regularly lift and move objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift objects up to 75 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing eyesight and verbal communications to supervise record prepare and communicate appropriate activities.
While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works indoors and outdoors and must be able to function and tolerate various environmental conditions including rain heat humidity and cold. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment and will work with toxic caustic or otherwise harmful chemicals such as degreasers cleaners solvents diatomaceous earth acids and chlorine.
