Summary:
The Inpatient Staff Speech Pathologist (SLP) will have the education knowledge and skill to provide inpatient services focusing on functional skills to enhance development restore function and to prevent disability from pediatric conditions illness and injury in an acute medical setting. Evaluation treatment and home programming are provided for children primarily with feeding and swallowing disorders or new onset articulation voice resonance fluency and receptive/expressive language disorders. The SLP will provide speech language services for chronically ill patients admitted to hospital for lengthy stays. The SLP is also responsible for providing swallow function studies for both inpatients and outpatients in collaboration with the radiologist. The position shall include patient and caregiver education and consultation to other medical professionals clinics and agencies both within Cook Childrens Health Care System and within the community. Documentation and correspondence pertaining to these services shall follow department and system policies.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in speech/language pathology communication disorders or related
- 2 years of pediatric feeding/swallowing experience in an acute pediatric hospital is preferred
- BLS certification within 30 days of employment required
- State license or eligible for state licensure
- Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech/Language Pathology or eligible for application upon completion of Clinical Fellowship Year and must be obtained within 12 months of hire to maintain employment at Cook
