Summary
Performs Ultrasound procedures in accordance with established professional and departmental standards and procedures. The technologist will provide services timely and efficiently at appropriate levels to all patients and in all settings served by the department. Provide imaging and fluoroscopic support during surgical procedure. The Technologist will perform tasks and duties as outlined by hospital policy and procedure. Will assist in assigned administrative tasks and will maintain clinical competencies through participation in educational and orientation programs. Always works as a team member within the entire facility. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs all exams within personal licensed scope of practice.
- Demonstrates a complete working knowledge of ultrasound equipment and intra operative-procedural imaging.
- Demonstrate anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning and technical factors according to policy and procedures
- Obtains patient history and clinical data for correlation with the scans.
- Demonstrates proficient and economic use of supplies communication equipment technical equipment and computer technologies.
- Performs visual inspection of sonography equipment identifies problems and communicates to immediate supervisor.
- Reviews physician orders checking for special instructions from requesting physicians and consults with the radiologist as necessary.
- Pleasantly greet patients confirming their identification.
- Completely explains examination procedure to the patient. Submit procedures to PACS appropriately.
- Ability to anticipate and meet the needs and expectations of customers.
- Contact the Ultrasound Supervisor/Manager for equipment service issues as appropriate.
- Personal responsibility/integrity/Financial Responsibility; each person is responsible for his or her actions and individually accountable for satisfied patients/customers confidentiality or patient and hospital information quality outcomes efficient operations and the overall success of AVALA.
- Works closely with the Physician PA or NP to receive guidance and instruction for treating patients and prepares patients for radiological procedures and take X-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety.
- Protect patients yourself and staff from radiation exposure by practicing sound procedures which meet or exceed industry standards.
- Provide fluoroscopic support during surgical procedures assisting team in image identification recording and documentation.
- Utilizes EHR to log completed radiological procedures and order entries retrieves and scans report and assures patient charging. Request retrieve and track files to and from other departments and/or centers. Complete documentation accurately and on time.
- Transport of patients as needed to and from the Imaging services department. Requests assistance when needed.
- Obtain develop and process quality diagnostic radiographs as requested by Physician PA or NP.
- Ensure that all equipment is in good working condition and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and report immediately any equipment malfunctions to Supervisor.
- Maintain x-ray room stock and rotate radiological supplies.
- Provides orientation and training to new Radiology Techs and makes suggestions to improve work methods.
- Other duties may be assigned.

Advanced Orthopedic and Spine Certification Requirements
(CR.1c) As part of the Advanced Orthopedic and Spine Certification at a minimum the Program direct-care staff must have one (1) hour of education specific to the Program scope initially and at least annually thereafter.
(CR.1e) As part of the Advanced Orthopedic and Spine Certification staff possess adaptability to processes as related to up-to-date best practices collaboration between departments compliance with protocols/processes communication cooperation and exceptional customer service.
Within 90 days of hire or if currently employed within 90 days of signing the job description must adhere to:
- Orientation of Advanced Orthopedic and Spine Certification
- In compliance with the Program education requirements
- Completed department specific competencies
Regulatory Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.
- Current ADMS with registry in either Abdomen (AB) Breast (BR) Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN). Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT/RVS) preferred.
- Current BLS certification or able to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Two years experience required as a Sonographer.
- Graduate of an accredited radiologic technologists program
- Current ARRT
- Current Louisiana State License LRT
- Current BLS certification or able to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Two years of experience preferred and must be proficient in diagnostic radiology. One year working competency preferred in one section of other specialized area: surgery.
Skills
