Contract Labor & Delivery Nurse (L&D) with Postpartum Experience Nights Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Nurse with Postpartum (PP) experience for a contract opportunity at a small Critical Access Hospital in Texas. This is a quick-start position ideal for nurses who are confident adaptable and experienced in rural healthcare settings.

Facility & Department Overview

25-bed Critical Access Hospital
Level III Trauma Center
Designated Level I Maternal & Neonatal Care
Approximately 15 20 deliveries per month
EMR: CPSI/Evident (OBIX for fetal monitoring)
Night shift assignment

This is a close-knit department typically staffed with a two-person team. Most nurses are cross-trained and expected to function competently in Labor & Delivery Postpartum and Nursery roles.

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive care for antepartum intrapartum postpartum and newborn patients
Perform strong maternal and fetal assessments
Interpret and manage Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
Assist with deliveries and provide immediate newborn care
Support lactation education and postpartum recovery
Collaborate effectively within a small team environment

Ideal Candidate

Minimum of 2 years of recent L&D experience
Prior rural healthcare experience strongly preferred
Strong independent assessment and critical-thinking skills
Comfortable working in a small department with broad responsibilities
Active state RN license required

Required Certifications

BLS
ACLS
PALS
NRP
Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AWHONN or equivalent)

Additional certifications such as STABLE and other maternal-child health credentials are highly valued.
