Responsibilities & Qualifications
The Novelis Lincolnshire team is seeking an Operations Leader CFL. This position is responsible for leading and developing the CFL operations team to meet and exceed customer expectations in a lean customer-oriented environment. Achieve established production objectives in a safe and efficient manner and within approved budgets company guidelines and legal requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in maintaining a zero-incident safety culture.
- Implements and maintains the safety program in the production departments of the location. Maintains constant vigilance for safe and healthy working conditions of employees. This includes responsibility for maintaining a high standard for housekeeping practices. Makes employees aware of job hazards directly and through subordinate supervisors and hourly leaders. Ensures proper safety training of employees and compliance with company safety rules and procedures.
- Lead and direct the CFL production activities for the location across all shifts. Clarifies and coordinates tasks and provides individual coaching and support needed to keep team committed to achievement of defined goals. Assumes an important role in resolving CFL production problems.
- Achieve CFL production plan operating within costs as budgeted for stated production levels in the fiscal year. Controls recovery of materials and other direct and indirect costs.
- Develop and maintain a smoothly functioning communication system with departments and other personnel. Ensures good communication between shifts crews and peers.
- Investigate accidents to determine and eliminate the root cause. Works closely with location EHS.
- Conduct all supervisory responsibilities concerning the hiring training counseling discipline and performance appraisal assigns and prioritizes work for all subordinates.
- Coach and support team and plays a key role in promoting team culture.
- Recommend replacement of existing equipment as needed and monitor actual spending against estimates. Accumulate costs and statistical data on major repairs to assist in long range planning.
- Partner with Human Resources to ensure compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement in areas such as overtime and seniority and work to resolve employee grievances in a timely and equitable manner.
- Work closely with Quality Leader to establish a consistent process for the application of quality improvement and continuous improvement implementation.
- Work closely with the Supply Chain Leader to ensure that all customer delivery expectations are met.
- Work closely with Cold Mill Operations Leader to ensure orders are processed to improve total plant throughput as well as understanding and addressing quality concerns.
- Work collaboratively with Maintenance and Engineering departments to support initiatives and activities for reliable people processes and equipment.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering Business or other technical related fields.
- Five years of managerial experience in a heavy industrial environment.
- Five years manufacturing experience including leadership of production teams with extensive knowledge of plant operations and processes.
- Must have strong computer skills with Microsoft Office products (Word Excel PowerPoint Access Front Page and Photo Editor).
- Must have excellent communication skills both written and verbal including the ability to present information clearly and persuasively.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work individually and in a team environment.
- Must have exceptional organizational and prioritization skills to meet deadlines and maintain necessary documentation.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated process improvement using lean concepts.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of aluminum processes.
- Lean or six sigma certifications.
- Experience working in a Union environment.
- Experience working with the demands of a 24/7 manufacturing operation.

The finishing mill in Lincolnshire Illinois is located 26 miles from Chicago and was established in 1966. The facility cold rolls aluminum to a desired gauges anneals to tempers levels and slits the rolled sheet to size. The facility which employees around 100 people produces mill finish coils for the building construction and transportation industries where its products are used for gutters siding soffits and facia.
